About Active Analytics
If opening Google Analytics 4 feels like a chore, Active Analytics answers the basics
Plenty of people install a huge analytics tool, open it twice and end up deciding by gut feeling. The problem is not a lack of data: it is that a simple answer requires building custom reports. And if the visitor uses an ad blocker, part of their visit may not even be recorded.
Active Analytics starts from a different idea: almost every website needs to answer three questions. Which pages get read, where people come from and how traffic changes from one month to the next. The answers appear inside the WordPress dashboard, with no tracking code to paste and no account to create on an external service. Because the tracking is first-party and cookieless, it keeps measuring even when the browser or an ad blocker limits traditional tools.
What you see in the Active Analytics panel
- Real-time activity: live visits and referrers, with an optional widget in the WordPress dashboard.
- Users, pageviews and sessions: daily and monthly overviews with growth compared over time.
- Referrers and channels: search engines, social networks and messaging apps such as WhatsApp, Telegram, YouTube, Discord, Mastodon and Threads.
- Content: your most viewed pages today and this month, and how each page performs.
- AI bots: which AI crawlers visit your site, alongside detection of around 400 known bots, crawlers and spiders.
- Events and internal searches: custom events recorded alongside pageviews, and what people type into your site's search.
- Internal links: which pages link to each page.
- Monthly email report: a summary of traffic and top search keywords.
Internal searches deserve a look: what people type into your search box is often content they feel is missing.
How to make the most of it depending on who you are
Blog or content site
Cross-check your most viewed content with referrers to see which articles bring readers and from where. The internal links report helps you spot pages that almost nobody links to.
WooCommerce store
It records pageviews and user journeys across the store without third-party tracking.
Agency or freelancer
A lightweight panel with no external accounts to set up. The monthly email summary saves you from preparing basic traffic reports by hand.
No cookies and no third-party requests
It uses no cookies, makes no third-party requests, shares no data and does not rely on an external dashboard: everything is stored in your WordPress database. Tracking runs asynchronously with non-blocking JavaScript, it is compatible with caching plugins, performance plugins and Cloudflare, and its admin scripts load only on its own screens.
This simplifies the starting point a lot if GDPR worries you, but your privacy policy and the rest of your site's plugins remain your responsibility: check with your advisor.
Questions from people coming from Google Analytics
Do I have to paste any code? No. There is no tracking code to copy and no external service to sign up for.
Does it slow down the site? Tracking is asynchronous and non-blocking, designed not to affect page load.
Does it work with my caching plugin? Yes, it is compatible with caching and performance plugins, and with Cloudflare.
Can I see whether AI bots visit me? Yes, there is an AI crawler report, plus detection of around 400 known bots.
Does it replace GA4? If what you want is to know which pages are visited, where visitors come from and how traffic changes, yes. If you need very specific custom reports, first consider what you would be missing.
Your data lives in your database, and cleaning it up is up to you
Since everything is stored locally, the volume grows with your traffic and your server carries it. The plugin lets you configure retention, automatic clean-up and emptying the tables whenever you want, so it is worth deciding how much history you want to keep.
