About Advanced Ads – Slider

Publishers with one great ad spot and several advertisers who want it

Anyone who lives off advertising on their website knows the best spot on the page is just one, and that more than one ad almost always competes for it. Sharing that spot without filling the page with banners is exactly what Advanced Ads – Slider solves: it turns an ad group into a carousel that shows the ads one after another.

One truth is worth keeping in mind: in a carousel, the first slide is the only one every visitor sees. The others are seen only by those who stay on the page long enough. That is why the order is not a detail, it is a commercial decision about who gets the best position.

  • It suits you if you already use Advanced Ads to manage ads and want to rotate them visually in one space, whether they are your own products, services or content.
  • It does not suit you if you want an image slider for your homepage or a gallery: it is designed for ads, not for decorative content.
  • Nor if you want to use it on its own: it is an Advanced Ads add-on and needs that plugin as its base.

How to set up a slider with Advanced Ads – Slider

It works simply and needs no programming. You create an ad group and choose the "slider" group type. From there you work with the weight of each ad:

  • The weight of each ad, which sets the order in which the slides appear.

This gives you automatic rotation with smooth transitions, without touching any code.

Where to place the carousel and how it behaves on mobile

The slider adapts to desktop, mobile and tablet. Even so, test your creatives on small screens: a banner with tiny text will still be unreadable even if the carousel is responsive.

Speed, animation and arrows: settings that call for a bit of code

The behavior can be customized through WordPress filters and hooks. This way you can change the animation speed and type, turn autoplay on or off, and show navigation buttons or arrows below or around the slider. The navigation controls can be styled with your own CSS.

This matters if you are not a developer: the basic setup is point and click, but fine adjustments require editing code or having someone do it for you.

Measuring each slide is the job of the Tracking add-on

The slider rotates ads, but it does not measure anything by itself. To see how each ad inside the carousel performs, you need the Advanced Ads Tracking add-on, which records each ad in the slider on page load. Without that measurement, you will not know whether the third slide contributes anything or just takes up space.

Questions from anyone about to try Advanced Ads – Slider

Does it work without Advanced Ads?

No. It is an add-on that relies on the ad groups of the main plugin.

Can I turn off autoplay?

Yes, you can turn it on or off using the available filters and hooks.

Can I see how many clicks each ad in the slider gets?

Yes, but with the Tracking add-on, which is separate from the slider.

Does it work on non-WordPress sites?

The plugin can only be installed on WordPress. Advanced Ads offers an ad server feature and a REST API to deliver ads from WordPress to other websites; check in your case whether the carousel works that way.
