About Advanced Forms Pro for ACF

Building a front-end form that creates or edits content often ends in custom code, or in a form plugin that doesn't understand your custom fields and forces you to redo all the work you already did in ACF. Advanced Forms Pro for ACF starts from a different idea: if you already define your data with Advanced Custom Fields, the same fields can power the form.

Your ACF fields are already the form

The person who installs this is usually a developer or an agency building sites with their own content types (listings, directories, profiles) who needs clients or users to submit data without entering the admin area. The usual problem isn't drawing the form, but mapping each field again to where it is stored. Here, if a custom field is shared by the form and the post or user, it is saved automatically.

Since it is built on ACF, you can use any of its field types: repeaters, date pickers, galleries and those added by third-party plugins.

What Advanced Forms Pro for ACF does with posts and users

  • Create and edit posts of any post type from the front end, connecting fields to the title, the content and the rest of the data.
  • Create and edit users: username, email, password and more, useful for registrations or for letting each person edit their profile.
  • Multi-step forms with the built-in page field.
  • Emails to users and administrators with formatted data, as many as you need.
  • Entries saved automatically, or full control of submissions through hooks if you prefer to code it.
  • Slack, Mailchimp and Zapier: a Slack notice for each submission, sign-ups to Mailchimp lists and connection to other services through Zapier.

You can define forms and fields from the interface or in code, which suits development workflows.

It needs ACF Pro, and it isn't for anyone who doesn't want to touch anything

It doesn't work on its own: it requires Advanced Custom Fields Pro. Also, the approach is developer-oriented: if you want a visual layout builder with ready-made design templates, this isn't it. It is not a booking or payment plugin either: it is about forms that save data and send it to other services.

Common questions before choosing it

Is it good for a simple contact form?

Yes, but that is its most modest use. Its value appears when the form must create or edit posts and users.

Can I stop a user from editing other people's posts?

Yes, there is a restriction so each user can only edit their own posts.

Can it submit without reloading the page?

Yes, AJAX submission is enabled with an argument in the shortcode.

Does it protect against spam?

It includes a honeypot field and, in Pro, reCAPTCHA support.

Can I do calculations in the form?

Yes, there are calculated fields and one field can use the result of another.

Personal data calls for care

If the form collects personal data (registrations, profiles, mailing lists), review what you store, which Mailchimp list it goes to and how you inform the visitor.

Test it with a real case before rolling it out

Start with a form that creates a post with three or four ACF fields and check how they are saved. Then add a second step, an email and, if you need it, the Slack or Mailchimp connection. That run will quickly tell you whether it fits the way you work.
