While you work on your site, your mailing list is the only thing that grows
A site under construction usually shows a blank page, an error or a dull notice, and every visitor who arrives in that period leaves without a trace. If you have announced the launch on social media or to friends, that traffic is among the most interested you will ever get.
During the build you have nothing to sell, but you can start gathering the people who will buy it. Arnica is a coming soon page that puts an Ajax subscription form connected to MailChimp, a countdown and a contact form up front, so that on launch day you already have people to notify.
Backgrounds, countdown and style in Arnica
Arnica is built with Bootstrap, adapts to mobile and is retina ready. What changes its look the most is the background and the blocks you turn on:
- Fullscreen background: a single image, an image slideshow or a YouTube video, depending on the tone you want.
- Countdown: can be laid out vertically or horizontally.
- Subscription and contact: both forms work through Ajax and the contact form validates the data before sending it.
- Style: six predefined color skins, Google Fonts typography, Font Awesome icons and CSS3 animations.
It also includes a section to introduce yourself, a Google Maps map and footer options, so it can be more than just a sign.
Arnica lets you in while everyone else sees the notice
With the plugin active, visitors see the coming soon page while you work on the site or the theme. You can allow access by IP address or exclude a specific URL, handy if you want to show progress to a client without opening the site to everyone. When you finish, you disable it from its panel and the new site goes live.
You don't need to uninstall it afterwards: it works just as well every time you have to put the site in maintenance mode. It also has fields for your own CSS and JS, in case you want to tweak something the panel doesn't cover.
Is Arnica enough or do you need a more complete launch page?
Arnica is a single notice page, not a landing page builder. The only direct connection for collecting emails is MailChimp, so if your list lives in another email service you won't have a native integration. The demo images are not included: you will have to add your own. Check in the demo how the map and the background video look on your phone before you decide.
Can I keep working on the site while the page is displayed?
Yes. It allows access by IP or excluding a URL, so you see the real site and everyone else sees the notice.
Is it useful for maintenance mode later on?
Yes. You turn it on and off from its panel whenever you need it.
What types of background does it support?
A fullscreen image, an image slideshow or a YouTube video.
Can I connect an email service other than MailChimp?
The included integration is MailChimp. For any other service there is no direct connection described.
