In a community, what happens to one member is caused by another
A member gains a follower, gets a reaction or sees that someone favorited what they posted. They did nothing, yet they are the one who most needs to find out. If you automate only the action of the person who acts, the one who receives is left without a response.
BuddyBoss social actions have two protagonists, and this integration offers a trigger for each one.
AutomatorWP BuddyBoss Addon connects the BuddyBoss platform with AutomatorWP recipes: a trigger waits for something in the community, and the actions and filters you add decide what happens. There are triggers such as "user starts following someone" and, separately, "user gets a follower"; such as "sends a friendship request" and "gets a friendship request accepted".
What it listens to and what it can do
- Profile: updating the avatar or cover image, completing the profile with a percentage greater than, less than or equal to one you choose, setting a field value, being assigned a profile type.
- Friendship and following: sending, accepting, rejecting or ending a friendship, and each of those events seen from the other side. Following, unfollowing, gaining or losing a follower.
- Activity and reactions: writing a message, replying to it, favoriting it, reacting to it, posting an image, a video or a document.
- Groups: creating one, joining, requesting to join a private one, being accepted or rejected, being banned, changing role, with variants by group type.
- Forums: creating a forum or a topic, getting a reply, favoriting a topic.
- Courses and memberships: completing a lesson, a section, a course or a quiz, and being added to a membership.
Among the actions are adding an activity to the user or to a group, assigning a profile type, updating a profile field, adding the user to a group, sending a notification or a private message, emailing the members of a group, starting or stopping a friendship, suspending or unsuspending a user, creating a topic in a forum, accepting or rejecting a request to a private group, sending an email invitation or a push notification, and marking a lesson, section or course as completed.
Four filters narrow a recipe: the user's profile type, the value of a profile field, and whether the user is in a group with a given role or not.
A use case: welcoming whoever arrives in a group
One possible combination: when a user joins a group, the recipe sends them a private message and adds an activity to the group. With the role filter, you can limit it to those who join with a specific role. Take it as a starting point and adapt it to your community.
What to know before using it
This add-on works on AutomatorWP recipes, so you need AutomatorWP and a BuddyBoss installation. Configuration happens in the AutomatorWP recipe editor. All four filters and many of the triggers and actions, the friendship ones among them, are Pro level, so check in the editor which ones you can choose.
Your first community recipe
- Install and activate AutomatorWP and this add-on on the site with BuddyBoss.
- Open AutomatorWP and create a new recipe.
- Choose the trigger among the BuddyBoss ones.
- Add the actions and, if you need them, the filters.
- Activate the recipe.
