About BBQ Pro WordPress Plugin
A restaurant website nobody checks until it goes down
A restaurant website is built once (menu, opening hours, map, phone number) and then left to run. Nobody checks it every day, so an automated attack can spend weeks trying doors without you ever noticing. BBQ Pro is designed for that situation: a firewall that works in the background and does not need anyone looking after it.
It inspects every request that reaches the site and blocks URLs containing typical attack strings, such as base64_, eval( or .exec(. It does not need Apache or .htaccess, and it works on any server (Apache, Nginx, Windows) and with SSL/HTTPS.
BBQ Pro on a restaurant site: from installation to the first block
1. Activate it and touch nothing
It requires no configuration: its basic rules already protect the site. It includes rules from the 6G, 7G and 8G families of the nG Firewall, with a near-zero rate of false positives.
2. Ask for an email alert
You can turn on email alerts for when a request is blocked. That way you know there are attempts without having to log into the dashboard, which helps when the website is not the first thing you look at in the day.
3. See what is being blocked
The statistics show how many times each pattern has fired, with a bar graph. They help you see which rules are working and which have never done anything, and fine-tune from there. It also supports advanced logging.
4. Keep it from getting in the way of whoever edits the site
If someone on the team runs into a block when updating the menu or photos, you can disable BBQ for logged-in users or add their IP to the whitelist. For blocked requests you can redirect, display your own message or set your own status code.
5. Test before you trust it
Each pattern (basic, advanced or custom) has a test button. You can edit, remove or disable any rule, add your own (targeting the URI, the user agent and more), import and export patterns, and go back to the default values with one click if things get complicated.
One clear limit: BBQ Pro filters requests, it is not a malware scanner or a backup. If the site is already infected or you have no backups, you need other tools alongside this firewall.
What BBQ Pro checks on every visit
- The request URI, the query string, the user agent, the IP and the referrer.
- SQL injection attempts, executable file uploads, directory traversal and user-ID phishing.
- Excessively long requests and xml-rpc exploits.
- Any IP address or range of IPs you want to block.
Questions before installing BBQ Pro
Do I have to configure it? No. It works once activated; configuration is optional for anyone who wants more control.
Does it work if my hosting uses Nginx? Yes. It does not depend on Apache or .htaccess.
Can it block my own team? It can happen with any firewall. It is solved with the option to disable it for logged-in users or with the IP whitelist.
Does it replace a full security plugin? No: it blocks malicious requests, but it does not scan files or make backups.
What does it add over the free version? Full rule customization, email alerts, statistics, pattern testing, import and export, IP whitelisting and blocking of IPs or ranges.
