A help center usually starts with four articles, grows without order and ends up with search that finds nothing, outdated documents and tickets repeating the same question. BetterDocs Pro is the paid layer of a WordPress knowledge base plugin that tackles that decay, not just the initial writing.
Writing, organizing and spotting gaps with your own AI
The AI writer turns a title into a full document or a group of FAQs. You can select a passage to improve it, expand it, fix the grammar, change the tone or turn it into a table, and save reusable instructions to keep your house style. It also generates categories, articles and FAQs in a single run from your site's real pages and products.
It works with your own key from the provider you choose: OpenAI, Claude, Gemini, DeepSeek, OpenRouter or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint. The key is stored on your server, and you can assign a cheap model to summaries and a powerful one to long texts.
What Pro adds over the free version:
- AI Instant Answer: shows the right document from whatever page the visitor is on.
- Content Intelligence: finds searches with no results, drafts the missing document and flags outdated or duplicate content.
- Reading analytics: measures how much of each article is read, which links are broken and which AI crawlers fetch your documentation, with IPs anonymized by default and a cookieless mode.
- Advanced search and popular keywords.
A complete knowledge base, for technical teams too
Even if you don't want AI, BetterDocs Pro works as a help center: live search with a search modal, grouped FAQs with schema, a sticky collapsible table of contents, reading time, Gutenberg blocks, Elementor widgets and ready templates. Each AI feature has its own switch.
You can run several knowledge bases on one site, each with its own categories, search and landing page, plus a private internal base with role-based access for your team, partners or paying customers. There is a glossary with tooltips that rolls up into an A-Z page, and one-click migration from Help Scout, weDocs, BSF Docs and Echo Knowledge Base.
For product teams, it generates API references from an OpenAPI spec with an interactive playground and syncs Markdown documents with GitHub or GitLab, in both directions. Also, by adding .md to a document's URL, assistants and crawlers receive clean Markdown.
Decide whether this is enough or you need the separate chatbot
The AI chatbot is not included: it's an add-on sold separately that requires BetterDocs Pro. It learns from all your documentation, answers with the source linked, keeps conversations in the admin and knows products, brands and shipping from WooCommerce and FluentCart. If it can't answer, it hands off to your support contact. Without the add-on, Pro gives you search and instant document answers, not conversation.
The AI needs your own key from a provider, except for bulk documentation generation, which doesn't require one. Factor in the provider's usage cost.
Does it work if I don't use AI?
Yes, it's a complete knowledge base on its own.
Can I keep part of the documentation closed to the public?
Yes, with the internal knowledge base and role-based access.
Does it work with Elementor?
Yes, it has Elementor widgets, plus Gutenberg blocks and Full Site Editing support.
Does it answer like a chat?
Only with the chatbot add-on. Pro alone finds the right document.
