In an appointment-based business, a notice nobody reads costs money: the slot goes empty, the client turns up at a different time or calls to ask something you already told them. The confirmation email lands in a crowded inbox, and changes (a cancellation, a new time) are exactly what can least afford to go unnoticed.
BookingPress SMS Notification Addon sends those notices as a text message to the client's number, automatically, as soon as the event happens in your calendar.
Which notices go out and how they are written
You can prepare different messages for situations such as:
- An appointment that is scheduled.
- A new booking, whether or not it was completed.
- A cancelled or rescheduled appointment.
- The payment status.
Each text is written with placeholders: markers that are replaced automatically with the client, staff and appointment details, depending on the selected service and the booking status. That way you don't write one SMS per client, but one template per situation.
BookingPress SMS Notification Addon and its 36 sending gateways
The plugin doesn't send the messages by itself: it connects to an SMS gateway. There are 36 compatible ones, including Twilio, MSG91, ClickSend, Nexmo, Telnyx and Textlocal. You pick one, enter the API credentials it gives you and you're set. You can also test the configuration before a real client receives a message, something you should always do.

It needs BookingPress Premium and an account with an SMS gateway
It is an addon, not a standalone plugin: it only works on top of BookingPress in its Premium version. Here is what it already solves and what is up to you:
- Already solved: automatic SMS sending based on the booking status, messages with dynamic data, different messages per situation and a configuration test.
- You cover it: signing up for an account with an SMS gateway and getting its API credentials.
- You cover it: writing and fine-tuning the texts for each situation.
- Another addon: if you would rather notify by WhatsApp, there is a separate BookingPress addon.
- Check in the demo: if you need scheduled reminders before the appointment, verify that they exist; the list of notices is based on booking events.
Frequently asked questions
Does it work with the free version of BookingPress?
No. It is an addon for the Premium version of BookingPress and requires it to be installed.
Do I have to sign up for a separate SMS service?
Yes. The addon connects to a gateway (Twilio, ClickSend, MSG91 or another) with your API credentials, and that gateway is what sends the message.
Can I customize the text depending on the service?
Yes. With placeholders, the message automatically includes the appointment, client and staff details, and you can adapt it to each booking status.
