About CobaltApps Extender Pro Plugin
Customizing a theme without losing everything when you switch it
Pasting functions into functions.php, tweaking CSS in random corners and duplicating templates inside the theme works until the day you change or update the theme and find your fixes were scattered and tied to it. CobaltApps Extender Pro exists to avoid that: it gathers your styles, functions, scripts, templates, widget areas and content in its own environment, separate from the active theme.
Extender Pro proposes treating those tweaks as a separate asset that can be exported, saved and carried to another site.
What CobaltApps Extender Pro does under the hood
- Your own code: a space for site-specific styles, functions and scripts, with preview mode enabled so you see the result when you save.
- Custom templates: you can create and edit page templates without touching the theme files.
- Widget and content areas: you combine them with WordPress conditional tags and assign them to a custom label to place them on specific pages or posts.
- Extender Blocks: content built with the block editor that you can display practically anywhere on the front-end.
- Custom Hook Blocks: they let you hook those blocks into different positions of the site.
Tools for working on the site itself
The front-end DEV tool lets you adjust styles and content while watching CSS changes in real time, and it includes a couple of sandbox-style utilities. The visual hooks map shows exactly where the hooks are inside the active framework.
It also offers image management with multiple upload, designed so that each customization carries its own assets, and a complete import and export feature for backups or for moving a design to another site.
Who gets the most out of Extender Pro, by situation
If you work with a framework and want more control
If you already use Genesis, GeneratePress, BB Theme, Kadence, Page Builder Framework, Astra or OceanWP, or CobaltApps' Freelancer Framework, you know how flexible they are, but you may want easier access to their pieces and to your code. That is where it fits.
If you build sites for clients
You can carry your tweaks from one project to another with the export.
If you want a plugin to change the look with clicks
It isn't for you. It is a development tool: you get value from it if you are comfortable with CSS, PHP, hooks and templates.
It only works on the supported frameworks
Extender Pro is a framework add-on, not a universal plugin. It is designed for the eight frameworks mentioned and does not replace any of them: without one of them active it has nothing to extend. Nor is it a visual page builder, and its value is best seen by using it, because it is many small pieces that combine.
