About Contact Form 7 Multilingual
If you already have WPML and Contact Form 7, this is for you; if not, it is not
Running a site in three languages with a contact form duplicated three times is a recipe for mess: every change to a field has to be repeated in every copy, and one always gets left behind. This add-on is built for anyone who already works with WPML and uses Contact Form 7, and wants to stop maintaining one form per language.
It helps to be clear about what it is: a WPML add-on, not a standalone forms plugin. It does not replace Contact Form 7 or WPML, and without both it does nothing. If your site is not translated with WPML, or you use another translation plugin, this is not what you are looking for.
One form for every language with Contact Form 7 Multilingual
Until now the usual method was to create a different form for each language. With Contact Form 7 Multilingual you create a single form and insert it into the pages of every language. WPML makes sure the texts the visitor sees appear in the language of that page.
- One structure: the fields are defined once, and what gets translated is the text.
- Same page, same language: the form shows in the language of the page where you placed it.
Which texts you can translate and how it works
You send the form for translation from the WPML translation dashboard, choosing the form content type. It works with both the classic and the advanced translation editor.
In both cases you can translate three things:
- The form template (labels, texts and buttons).
- The messages the visitor sees on screen after submitting, such as confirmations or error notices.
- The texts of the notification emails.
That last point matters more than it seems: if the form is in German but the error message appears in English, visitors see it as carelessness. Here you translate everything from the same place.
Two requirements to consider before buying
The add-on is downloaded from your WPML account, so it depends on that ecosystem. In addition, compatibility with Contact Form 7 has needed adjustments over time: there was a specific fix so it would work with version 6.0 of the forms plugin. That is a good reason to test the translated form in each language after any major change.
One more detail: the vendor renamed it WPML Multilingual for CF7, at the request of the author of Contact Form 7. If you search for it by that name, it is the same add-on with the same function.
