Shipping costs by ubigeo, the way Peru actually bills them
WooCommerce is designed for countries where shipping is settled with a flat rate or postcode bands. In Peru that does not work: the cost depends on the department, and within it on the province and the district, and the difference between shipping to a district of Lima and one in the jungle is not a nuance, it is the whole order.
This plugin brings ubigeo into the shipping calculation. You define the cost per department or per district and the customer sees at checkout what they will actually pay, instead of an estimate somebody has to correct over WhatsApp afterwards.
How costs are configured
- By department, for a general rate per region.
- By district, when differences within one department are large.
- Free shipping, with the option of requiring a minimum order value.
- Store pickup, with no shipping charge.
Costs can be uploaded in bulk from a CSV, which is essential: with nearly two thousand districts, entering them by hand is not an option.
Other things it ties to ubigeo
Coupons can be targeted by ubigeo, so a shipping promotion only applies where it pays. And payment methods can be enabled or disabled by destination, which is what lets you offer cash on delivery only in the areas where the courier accepts it.
Shipping can also be switched off without deactivating the plugin, and methods renamed so the customer reads whatever you want.
Two things to know before installing
It needs the free Ubigeo Peru plugin installed, which it depends on for the list of departments, provinces and districts.
And it modifies the checkout screen, so **it is not compatible with visual page builders** or with most plugins that edit checkout fields. It works with WooCommerce shortcodes, but not yet with blocks. Worth checking beforehand rather than halfway through the build.
