About Coupon Affiliates for WooCommerce
Nobody says a web address out loud
There is the flaw in link-based tracking, and it is a large one. An influencer records a video, mentions your brand and says "use my code MARIA20". Nobody clicks anything. The viewer goes to your site on their own, types the code in the cart, and buys.
With a classic affiliate system, that sale gets attributed to nobody. The link was not clicked, the cookie was not set, and Maria goes uncommissioned despite having brought the customer.
Coupon Affiliates attributes by coupon code rather than by link, and that changes what kind of collaborations you can run.
Why the coupon is more reliable than the link
Because it does not depend on anything that can get lost along the way. Blockers do not touch it, browser cookie restrictions do not affect it, and it works the same if the customer buys three weeks later from another device.
And above all, it works in the places where there is no link to click: a podcast, a video, a disappearing story, a poster, the radio. There the code is the only possible attribution.
What it brings
- An affiliate dashboard with their statistics, commissions, referred orders and monthly summary.
- A link generator that applies the coupon automatically, with QR code and short address.
- Commissions global, per affiliate or per affiliate group.
- Payout requests from the dashboard itself, with an admin notification and central tracking.
- A standalone portal under your branding, as an alternative to the in-account dashboard.
The added advantage, and its flip side
The discount code does not only measure: it also sells. An affiliate link gives the buyer nothing; a ten per cent code does, and that is why the affiliate promotes it with enthusiasm.
The flip side has to be seen: that discount comes out of your margin and adds to the commission. If you give ten per cent to the customer and ten to the affiliate, the sale costs you twenty points. Worth doing that arithmetic before launching the programme, not after the first payout.
And one concrete precaution: codes end up published on discount sites that capture sales you were making anyway. Worth checking periodically where yours appear and covering it in the programme's terms.
Requirements
It needs WooCommerce, because it rests on its coupons. It also integrates with Paid Memberships Pro, LifterLMS, LearnDash and MemberPress through their add-ons.
Alternatives in the catalogue
If you prefer the classic link-and-cookie model, SliceWP builds the programme inside WordPress with no platform fee, and Easy Affiliate adds fraud detection before payout, which is the hard part of a programme that works.
The sensible move in many cases is not choosing but combining: links for the ones who write (bloggers, newsletters, comparison sites) and coupons for the ones who talk (video, podcasts, social). Different audiences, measured differently.
And if what you want is conditional discounting rather than affiliation, that is Advanced Coupons.
