About Custom Shipping Methods for WooCommerce Pro
When the carrier is not the one delivering your orders
Shipping plugins often assume there is a courier company with its own rate behind the store. But if you deliver with your own van, your staff or a local courier, the real cost depends on kilometres, weight and what is in the cart, and WooCommerce's flat rate either falls short or loses you money. Custom Shipping Methods for WooCommerce Pro lets you create your own shipping methods with rules that reflect how you really deliver.
Self-delivery does not cost the same at 3 km as at 18, and a sofa does not cost the same as a pack of candles. Charging the same for everything usually means small, nearby orders subsidise large, distant ones.
How Custom Shipping Methods for WooCommerce Pro calculates the price
Each shipping method is created with a name and a calculation basis. The options are:
- Distance: measures the kilometres between your configured origin and the customer's address, and applies the matching range (for example 0-5 km, 5-10 km, 10-20 km), with minimum and maximum distance.
- Weight: ranges based on total cart weight, with a minimum and maximum.
- Quantity, cart value and volume: useful when your cost depends on the number of items or the order amount.
The ranges allow table-rate style logic: you define the limits and the price of each one, and the customer sees the matching rate at checkout. You can also configure free shipping or flat rates under your own conditions, and run several different methods at once.
What you gain depending on your type of store
Local delivery with your own vehicles
You set the origin, define kilometre ranges with their price and set a maximum distance so you do not accept deliveries that are not worth it.
Furniture, heavy or bulky goods
You calculate by weight or volume and add surcharges by WooCommerce shipping class for the products that cost more to move.
Mixed catalogue with fragile or local-only products
You can show or hide methods based on specific products, categories or tags. That way, a fragile or local-pickup item does not offer a shipping option you cannot fulfil.
Wholesale or B2B sales
With rules by quantity or cart value, you can define their own rate for large orders.
One prerequisite: distance depends on Google
Distance calculation uses the Google Distance Matrix API. Use of that API and any charges from Google are separate from the plugin, so you should have a Google account set up before betting on per-kilometre rates. If you only work with weight, quantity or amount, that dependency does not affect you.
Nor is it a plugin for fetching rates from external carriers: you define the rates by hand. If you want real-time quotes from a courier company, this is not it.
Frequently asked questions
Can I combine distance and weight?
You can create several methods and apply product, category or shipping class conditions alongside distance or weight. Set up your methods and check in the demo how they combine in your case.
Does it work for free shipping?
Yes, you can configure free shipping conditions based on your rules, and flat rates as well.
Can I hide a method for certain products?
Yes, by including or excluding products, categories or tags, plus weight, cart value or distance conditions.
Do I need Google for everything?
No, only for distance calculations.
What decides whether it suits you
If you deliver yourself and your costs vary with distance or weight, this plugin lets you define those shipping rules. If you use a courier with its own rates, you probably do not need it.
