About Database Cleaner Pro
Your database remembers what you already forgot
You tested a slider, uninstalled a security plugin, switched forms plugins. The site no longer uses them, but the database still carries their tables, options and metadata. Over the years, old post revisions, expired transients and orphaned rows that nobody claims pile up, and the site gets heavier without any screen warning you.
Database Cleaner Pro starts from a sensible idea: measure first, then decide. It shows you the size of every table so you can see where the weight really is, and it groups what can be deleted into clear categories: WordPress core leftovers, ownerless options, tables with no owner and old post types.
Database Cleaner Pro names the plugin behind each table, but it does not decide for you
The basic part cleans revisions, trashed posts, spam or unapproved comments, transients and other useless data. It also finds unknown or unused tables, reviews poorly optimized options (adjusting their autoload) and points out post types that are no longer needed. It works in small batches, so a large database does not have to exhaust the server's time limit, and it has an Easy mode for a quick tidy and an Expert mode to see every table.
What the Pro version adds:
- Origin detection: every table, option and post type shows which plugin or theme created it. That is the difference between deleting with judgment and deleting blind.
- Nyao Sweeper: runs in the background on a schedule for the categories you have approved, so the clutter does not come back.
- Advanced analysis: more detailed information and better detection to clean more precisely.
Now the limits. Deletions are permanent and there is no undo button. A table with no apparent owner is not necessarily disposable: it may hold data you care about, such as form entries, so check before selecting it. The plugin cleans database rows, not the files in the media library; for that there is Media Cleaner, and together they cover rows and files. And if you want an AI assistant to inspect the database through MCP, you also need AI Engine (free).
Questions before you press delete
Does it work for a huge database?
That is what it is designed for: it uses controlled queries and processes in small batches, showing progress. A very large cleanup of orphaned metadata can take a while, but it goes in parts.
Can I clean automatically without the Pro version?
No. Scheduled background cleaning with Nyao Sweeper is a Pro feature. Manual cleaning and the basic categories are part of the free side.
Will it tell me which plugin left an abandoned table?
Yes, that is one of the Pro features: it shows the plugin or theme that created each table, option and post type. Without it you see the items, but you have to work out the origin yourself.
Does it replace Media Cleaner?
No. One cleans database data and the other cleans media files. They complement each other.
Take a recent backup before the first big cleanup
Since nothing that is deleted can be recovered from the plugin, the sensible routine is this: a current backup, look first at which tables weigh the most, start with the clearest items (revisions and expired transients) and leave tables or options from plugins you do not recognize for last. Once you are comfortable with what gets deleted, schedule the categories you trust with the Pro version and check now and then how the database size evolves to spot what makes it grow.
