About Directorist Authorize net Payment Gateway
If your directory charges for listings, the most delicate moment is not the design or the SEO: it is the instant someone reaches the end of a pricing plan and has to enter their card. If the payment method they expected is missing, they leave, and that loss never shows up in any visitor statistic.
Charging Directorist plans with Authorize.net
This plugin adds Authorize.net as a payment gateway for Directorist pricing plans. Someone who wants to promote their business in your directory picks a plan and pays at checkout with the methods the gateway accepts: Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express, JCB and PayPal, among others.
Your business does not sell a physical product: it sells visibility to people who already have a business. That kind of customer usually pays with the company card and is sensitive to a checkout that looks improvised. A well-known gateway gives them one less reason to hesitate right before paying.
What Directorist Authorize net Payment Gateway does and where it falls short
- Checkout for pricing plans: payment is built into the Directorist plan purchase process.
- Several payment methods: the user chooses the one they prefer among the cards and options Authorize.net accepts.
- Fraud filters: the gateway lets you filter payments in four ways: by velocity, IP, transaction and shipping.
- Several currencies: it supports payments in currencies such as USD, CAD, GBP, NZD, DKK or CHF, among others.
Limits worth knowing
It is an add-on: it needs the Directorist plugin installed and does not work on its own. In addition, recurring payments are listed as not yet released, so if your model depends on subscriptions that renew automatically, this does not cover it yet. And it is designed to charge for pricing plans, not to sell other products.
There is also a geographic condition: the merchant account must be in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Europe or Australia. Customers can pay from anywhere, but your account has to be in one of those regions.

The fee listed for Authorize.net is 2.9% plus 30 cents per transaction. Confirm the terms of your account with the gateway.
Merchant account first, plugin second
Before touching WordPress, check that your merchant account is in one of the supported regions and that you have your Authorize.net credentials at hand. Then install and activate Directorist and create your pricing plans.
Make at least one test purchase going through the whole checkout as a customer would: choose a plan, pay and check that the listing is published. It is better for you to find a problem than an advertiser with their card in hand.
