About Directorist Booking

A directory that lists businesses but doesn't let them take bookings is only half finished

Visitors to a directory of restaurants, clinics or salons usually find the listing, a phone number and a contact form. Then the email ping-pong begins to agree on a time. Directorist Booking puts the reservation inside the listing itself, with a calendar, time options and approval by the business owner.

The key for whoever builds a directory: the value of your site is no longer just being found, but letting the listed business receive orderly bookings without leaving it. That changes why a merchant would want to be in your directory.

How Directorist Booking fits depending on who uses it

If you list service businesses (restaurants, salons, doctors, lawyers)

You use service-type booking. Each owner defines the availability of their service and the customer picks a slot. There are two ways to offer times: time slots set by the provider, or a time picker with a built-in calendar so the user chooses the one they prefer.

If you list events, seminars or classes

Event booking works as registration through tickets. It suits shows, seminars, training classes and similar cases, where what is booked is a place and not a personal appointment.

If you run the directory and want to control the process

Both you and your users can publish bookings on the site. You can let each owner manage their own without having to step in on every one.

Instant booking or owner approval

There are two modes to decide on depending on the type of business:

  • Instant booking: the customer books and it is confirmed, useful for services with fixed schedules.
  • Booking request: the listing owner approves or rejects each request, better for consultations or services where the job has to be assessed.

The customer can also cancel the bookings they submitted. You can limit the number of slots and guests, show the available slots and set up one-time bookings for each reservation. Email notifications report on every change.

Refunds: a request form, not a magic automatic payout

The plugin lets you set refund criteria and offers a form for customers to request a refund for what they booked. It is request handling: before promising anything to your owners, check in the demo how it is processed and how it connects to your payment gateway.

Frequently asked questions

Does it work on its own?

No. It is an extension and requires the Directorist plugin to be installed.

Is it suitable for hotels or rentals?

One of its screenshots shows a rental calendar view, but the described use is services and events. If you need nightly rentals, test it in the demo first.

Can the owner reject a booking?

Yes, in request mode they can approve or reject it.

Can many time options be added?

Yes, it supports unlimited slots and times, and you can also limit places and guests.

It needs Directorist as the base of the directory

Booking does not create a directory by itself: it adds reservations to one already running on Directorist. Nor is it a standalone booking system for a site without listings.
