About Directorist Image Gallery
In a directory, a hotel, restaurant or property listing with a single photo (or none) ends up among those people glance at for a second and discard. Someone looking for a place to sleep, eat or buy wants to see it before calling. Directorist Image Gallery adds an image gallery to each listing so that decision is made inside your directory and not in another tab.
Businesses paying to appear in your directory need photos that help them sell
What directory owners often overlook is that their real customers are the listed businesses, not the visitors. A restaurant paying for its listing wants to show its dishes and dining room; a real estate agency, the rooms of each property. If your directory only allows one featured image, the advertiser feels their listing performs below its potential and has a reason to move to another platform. The gallery turns the ability to show images into something that advertiser values.
Also, if you use Directorist's pricing plans add-on (or its WooCommerce version), you can reserve the gallery for a higher plan and give people a concrete reason to upgrade.
What Directorist Image Gallery does on each listing
- Responsive gallery: it adjusts to mobile, tablet and desktop.
- Unlimited images in the plugin: it sets no cap on photos per listing. If you want to limit them by plan, you will need to handle that another way.
- Lightbox: clicking an image enlarges it over the page, without leaving the listing.
- Cropping on or off: you can turn image cropping on or off.
- Columns and dimensions: you can decide how many columns the gallery shows and the width and height of each one.
- Front-end upload: it supports image uploads from the front-end.
It is an add-on: it needs the Directorist plugin installed and does not work on its own. Nor is it a photo editor or a video system; its job is to display and enlarge images.

Does it work without the Directorist plugin?
No. It is an extension of the Directorist plugin and depends on it.
Is there a maximum number of images per listing?
The plugin sets no maximum. The sensible approach is to think about how many photos your hosting can handle without listings becoming heavy.
Can business owners upload the photos themselves?
Yes, it supports image uploads from the front-end.
Do I need to configure it much?
No. It works as soon as you activate it, and the settings (columns, size, cropping) are optional.
How heavy the gallery gets on a listing full of photos
The plugin itself is light, but a gallery with many photos is heavy because of the images, not the plugin. If your advertisers upload photos straight from their phones, it helps if you or they shrink them first. A well-tuned gallery with fewer columns and moderate thumbnails loads better than one with dozens of huge photos.
Columns and cropping are set once and affect every listing
Before opening the directory to advertisers, test it with a hotel or restaurant listing using both horizontal and vertical photos, and check on mobile how they look with and without cropping. That initial adjustment avoids fixing it when hundreds of listings are already published.
