About Directorist Job Manager
Building a job board on top of a directory often ends up with listings that are a block of text, with no visible salary, no deadline and an email address to write to blindly. Job seekers move on to the next site. Directorist Job Manager is an add-on for Directorist that turns listings into job offers with their own fields and an application form.
A job post is read in ten seconds or not at all
The truth about a job board is that candidates don't read: they scan. They look for the position, contract type, salary and deadline, and decide whether to keep going. If those details are buried in a paragraph, the post loses, even if the job is a good one. That's why each piece of data should be its own field rather than free text.
Step 1: defining what data each post carries with Directorist Job Manager
First, set up the "Add Listing" form. The plugin lets you select or create unlimited custom fields: job type, open position, salary, deadline and whatever else your sector needs. What each one does:
- Job type and position: they classify the post and make it understandable at a glance.
- Salary: it's the field that filters candidates the most, so decide whether to make it mandatory.
- Deadline: it makes clear until when people can apply.
One limit to keep in mind: it's an add-on, it doesn't work on its own. It needs the Directorist plugin installed and active.
Step 2: deciding how the post looks in the listing
The plugin lets you create and customize the listing card, in both grid view and list view. Here you decide what candidates see before opening the post: a sensible approach is for the card to show position, type and salary if you publish it. There are also builders for the search form, the single listing header and a sidebar widget with job information, so the full page repeats the key data in a fixed place.
Step 3: the application form
This is the part that sets a job board apart from a simple directory. You can offer users an application form starting from one of the included samples or from a basic one built from scratch, and set up the application page your way. There is also an email template tied to the form, so you control the message that gets sent.
What to check in the demo: how received applications are handled and whether you need more than email. If you want a selection dashboard with statuses, interviews or candidate filters, don't take it for granted: this plugin focuses on publishing job posts and collecting applications.
Frequently asked questions
Does it work without Directorist?
No. It's an extension and requires the base Directorist plugin.
Is there a maximum number of posts or fields?
You can create unlimited custom fields and add as many listings as you need.
Which projects it suits
It fits if you already use or plan to use Directorist and want a job section with well-organized data: a local job board, one for a specific sector or one inside a larger directory. If what you need is a full recruitment system with candidate tracking, look beyond this add-on.
