About Directorist Stripe Payment

Charging an advertiser from another country shouldn't hold your directory back

People who build a business directory think about listings, categories and search, and leave payment for last. It's a common mistake: if a payment fails with a foreign card, or the bank asks for a verification the site doesn't handle, the advertiser leaves without a word and you never find out. Directorist Stripe Payment adds Stripe as a gateway to the Directorist plugin so that step isn't the weak point.

Currencies and payment methods Stripe brings

The extension processes payments in more than 135 currencies, as long as Stripe is available in your country. That lets you charge users in other regions without forcing them to pay in a currency they don't use. Among the methods Stripe supports are:

  • Credit, debit and international cards
  • Apple Pay and Google Pay
  • Amex Checkout, Masterpass by MasterCard and Visa Checkout
  • WeChat Pay and AliPay
  • ACH (credit and debit) and SEPA direct debit

The list doesn't end there, but check in the demo which methods the customer actually sees at your directory's checkout.

Recurring payments: that's where a directory earns its living

A directory rarely lives off a one-off sign-up. It lives off advertisers who keep paying every month or every year, and off renewals that don't depend on someone remembering to do them. This extension supports recurring payments, so customers are charged on every repetition of the period you choose. It's a good option if your model is subscription-based.

For card payments it includes compatibility with 3D Secure and strong customer authentication (SCA), and it complies with the PCI standard. That doesn't replace what you must comply with as the business owner.

It only works on top of Directorist and doesn't include PayPal

It's an extension, not a standalone plugin. Before buying, be clear about what it solves and what you'll have to cover yourself:

  • Already solved: Stripe payments inside Directorist, payments in more than 135 currencies, recurring payments and 3D Secure with SCA.
  • Needed separately: the Directorist plugin installed and active, because the extension doesn't work without it.
  • Needed separately: PayPal, which is offered through the Directorist PayPal Payment Gateway add-on, designed to be used alongside this extension.
  • Depends on your country: whether you can accept payments from where you operate is decided by Stripe's availability there.
  • On you: any invoicing or tax needs your business has; if you don't see it in the demo, handle it by hand or with a professional.
