About Divi Builder
When your theme has no visual builder and you don't want to change it
Many WordPress sites end up trapped between a theme that can't be touched without code and a theme switch that would mean rebuilding everything. Divi Builder is the plugin that brings the Divi visual editor to any theme you already have installed, so you can design pages by dragging and dropping instead of fighting fixed templates.
Designing directly on the page with Divi Builder
The editor works on the canvas itself: you see the page as you build it, add containers and modules with the add buttons that appear as you hover, and edit text right where it sits. This is what matters most day to day:
- Layers and breadcrumbs: a panel with the page structure to select, reorder and search elements without getting lost in long layouts.
- Customizable breakpoints: seven are predefined and you can adjust the width of each one, to fine-tune how the site looks on mobile, tablet and desktop.
- Right-click menu: quick actions depending on the element you click.
- Settings search and filters: find an option by keyword or see only what you have modified.
- Flexbox and CSS Grid layouts: for fluid designs and structured grids without writing CSS.
Global styles so you don't repeat the same adjustment a hundred times
This is where a builder stops being a toy. Divi lets you define global variables (colors, sizes, fonts, images, strings and URLs) and use them in its settings fields. It also offers design presets: you assign a style to an element or to a specific attribute, such as borders or shadows, and when you change the preset it updates across the whole site.
The fields accept CSS units and math functions, useful if you want fine control over size and position. In addition, the Loop Builder repeats dynamic content from posts, terms or users, designed for blogs, portfolios or listings. And if you need to go further, it supports your own code and CSS.
Decide whether Divi Builder suits you as a plugin or as the full theme
Before installing it, be clear about what it is and what it isn't. It is the builder, not a complete theme: the overall look (header, footer, base structure) still depends on the theme you have active. The global templates feature with custom headers and footers is described as part of the Divi theme package, so if you need it, check in the demo whether it is available when used as a plugin.
Don't expect design magic either: you'll have many settings and that takes judgment. Someone who has never laid out a page may take a while to get comfortable with so many options, so it helps to start with premade templates and tweak them.
Does it work with any theme?
Always test in a staging environment before touching a live site.
Do I need to know how to code?
No: you design visually. Custom code and CSS are optional.
Can I extend it with third-party modules?
There is a marketplace of extensions, modules and layouts created by the Divi community, separate from the product.
Is it suitable for an online store?
You can design shop pages with its modules, but check in the demo how it behaves with your specific ecommerce plugin.
