About Divi Machine

Divi lays out pages, but knows nothing about structured content

With Divi you build a beautiful page in an afternoon. What it cannot do out of the box is the other thing: a property catalogue with its square metres, its bedrooms and its price, filterable by neighbourhood. A directory of professionals with specialty and area. A recipe database by ingredient. All of that calls for custom content types, fields and dynamic listings, and there Divi falls short.

Divi Machine is the piece filling that gap. It is to the Divi builder what dynamic content systems are to other builders.

What it adds

  • Custom content types and taxonomies, created from within Divi without touching code.
  • Integration with Advanced Custom Fields, for defining and displaying each item's fields.
  • Dynamic listing modules: grid, masonry, carousel, slider, map, modal, and a grid-to-list switcher.
  • Grouping by taxonomy, for presenting the catalogue ordered by category, area or whatever applies.
  • Filters and pagination, with infinite scroll, a load more button or classic pagination.

What it needs to run

Two things, and both are worth counting: Divi, obviously, and Advanced Custom Fields, free or paid version. ACF defines the fields and Divi Machine displays them.

That is not a drawback, it is how it is designed: it leans on the sector standard for custom fields rather than inventing its own, which means that if you ever change builder, the data remains readable. A dependency that works in your favour.

When it pays off

When the site has a catalogue that is going to grow and that people are going to filter. A property portal, a business directory, a technical product database, an events guide, a listing of professionals.

It does not pay off for a ten-page website. There Divi alone is enough, and adding two more plugins complicates maintenance for nothing in return.

Frequently asked questions

Does it work without Divi?
No. It is an extension of the Divi builder and needs it installed.

Is Advanced Custom Fields required?
Yes, free or paid version. It is what defines the fields that then get displayed.

Can I create custom content types?
Yes, content types and taxonomies, from within Divi and without coding.

Can the listings be filtered?
Yes, with filters and several ways to paginate, infinite scroll included.
