About Download Monitor Page Extension

For anyone whose file catalog no longer fits in a simple list, not for those who just want a download button

When a site piles up manuals, forms, images or recipe PDFs, a flat list of links stops working: nobody finds anything, everything looks the same and visitors leave without downloading. Download Monitor Page Extension is built for that moment, when what you have is already a library and it needs a front page people can browse.

It suits you if you already use Download Monitor to manage your files and want a browsable listing with search, categories and tags. It is not for you if you only offer one or two loose files: a normal link is enough for that.

  • It is an add-on for Download Monitor and does not work on its own: the base plugin must be installed.
  • Its job is to display and organize downloads, not to build the store or lock files by itself.
  • Designed for self-hosted WordPress or plans that allow plugins.

A library you can browse: the [download_page] shortcode

The whole extension revolves around one shortcode, [download_page], which you can place on any page. It generates a library front page with featured downloads, categories, tags and a search box.

The number of items shown in each section is adjusted with shortcode arguments. That way you decide whether the front page shows many featured downloads or just a few, depending on the size of your catalog.

Each file gets its own detail page, not a direct link

Here is the difference from an ordinary listing: listed downloads do not point to the file, but to a detail page. That page is where the visitor decides whether it is worth downloading.

On each resource page you can show:

  • File versions.
  • Description.
  • Thumbnail.
  • Custom fields.
  • The download link itself.

This helps especially if you distribute documents that change version or resources that need an explanation first, such as internal policies, training guides or graphic material.

Tags and categories with hierarchy and pagination

Visitors can browse downloads by tag and by category, in sortable, paginated lists. Categories show their hierarchy, so you can narrow down from a broad group to a specific one. It is useful when you mix different subjects (for example, HR documents on one side and training material on the other) and do not want them to overlap.

What to check before building the front page

A nice front page will not fix a messy library. Before using the extension, it is worth planning your categories and tags well in Download Monitor, because they are the foundation of what the visitor will see. Also check in the demo how your theme looks with the listing, since the final look depends partly on your styles.

Frequently asked questions

Can I limit how many items appear?

Yes, the number per section is controlled with shortcode arguments.

Is it good for searching files?

Yes, it includes a search box on the library front page.

Does it work on Shopify, Wix or Squarespace?

No, it is a WordPress plugin and only works on that system.
