About Duplicator Pro WordPress Plugin

A backup you have never restored is just a hope

Almost nobody thinks about their backup until the day the hosting fails, an update breaks the site or it is time to move to another server. That is when you find out the file cannot be restored, that it was stored on the very server that went down, or that nobody knows how to rebuild the site. Duplicator Pro brings together in a single plugin the two tasks that put anyone managing websites to the test: copying and moving a complete site.

The person who installs it is usually someone who maintains their own business website, or a professional who looks after other people's sites. For both, the real problem is not making the backup, but knowing you can go back without improvising.

Backups, restore and migration: how Duplicator Pro works

It creates complete backups of files and database, on demand and without limit, or scheduled automatically on an hourly, daily, weekly or monthly basis.

  • Recovery points: they work like a time machine. Before a risky update you set a point and, if something goes wrong, you return to that state with one click.
  • Remote storage: it sends backups to Google Drive, Dropbox, Amazon S3, Microsoft OneDrive, FTP / SFTP and S3-compatible services such as Wasabi. That way a server failure does not take your backups down with it.
  • AES-256 encryption: it protects the backup archive, useful if it contains customer data.
  • Migration wizard: the installer moves the site in two steps, without touching code. You can import from a server or from the cloud using a URL, without first downloading the backup to your computer.
  • Search and replace: swap old URLs for new ones when changing domain.

Multisite, WooCommerce and shared databases

It supports backups and migrations of multisite networks, and you can install a subsite as a standalone site or the other way round. You can also migrate to destinations where the database is shared with another WordPress site, and create pre-configured installs with your plugins, themes and content to launch new sites without repeating the work.

What you should be clear about

It is a plugin for self-hosted WordPress: it does not work on closed platforms. It is a backup and migration tool, not a monitoring service or protection against attacks. And remote backups only protect you if you actually set up the destination and check that they arrive.

Frequently asked questions from buyers weighing it up

Do I need to know how to code?

No. Backups and migrations are done with wizards, without code.

Can I use it on client sites?

Yes, as long as the plan you choose covers the number of sites you will manage.

Does it work for large sites?

It is designed for large, complex migrations, including very heavy sites, although the time will depend on your server.

Can I move a multisite to a regular site?

Yes: from multisite to standalone site, and from a single site to a multisite network.

Does it slow down the site?

It is developed with performance in mind. Even so, a full backup uses server resources while it runs, so schedule large backups for low-traffic hours.

Scheduled backups are best tested on a staging site

Before relying on Duplicator Pro in production, run a complete cycle: create a backup, send it to your remote storage and restore it in a test environment with the installer. That way you check that the destination works, that the file downloads properly and how long your hosting takes for the process.

Then adjust the frequency to the pace of your site: a shop with daily orders needs more frequent backups than a blog that publishes once a month. And before updating important plugins, create a recovery point: it is the cheapest safety net you have.
