About Everest Forms – User Registration
Opening registration is easy; deciding who gets in and with what permissions is the hard part
A sign-up form often ends up being a contact email in disguise: someone fills it in, you create the account by hand, send them a password and hope they don't lose it. Once registrations grow, that approach doesn't hold up.
Everest Forms – User Registration is the Everest Forms add-on that turns a form into a real WordPress user sign-up. The delicate part isn't the form, but the role each person receives on registering. A role that is too generous on a public form is a security hole; one that is too limited forces you to tweak accounts by hand. Here the role is assigned inside the form itself (administrator, editor, subscriber and the other WordPress roles), so choose carefully which one you give to a form open to anyone.
Profile fields and custom meta in the same form
You drag into the form the fields you need: username, password, bio, website URL, GDPR-style consent checkboxes and more. Then you link each form field to its WordPress user field from the registration settings.
If you need to store data WordPress doesn't include by default (a member number, a company, a preference), you can map a form field to a custom meta field.
- Automatically generated password: users don't have to come up with one, and sign-up is quicker.
- Email notifications: the user can be notified after a successful registration, and the administrator can be notified of every sign-up.
- Login form via shortcode: you place it wherever you want and can set a redirect URL to send users to a specific page after logging in.
Everest Forms – User Registration depending on who installs it
If you're building a community or a private area
You need three pieces: sign-up, login and password recovery. The plugin covers all three. Password reset is enabled with an option on the login form.
If your site has several contributors
With role assignment at sign-up you can have one form for readers (subscribers) and another, which you don't publish openly, for contributors with a different access level. It's cleaner than changing roles by hand afterwards.
If you already get junk registrations
A public sign-up form attracts bots. You can protect both registration and login with reCAPTCHA v2, reCAPTCHA v3 or hCaptcha, whichever you prefer.
Questions to ask before setting up user sign-up
Does it include a login form? Yes, through a shortcode you can place on any page, with an optional redirect after logging in.
Can I ask for data WordPress doesn't have? Yes, by mapping form fields to custom meta fields.
Does it stop spam? It supports reCAPTCHA v2, v3 and hCaptcha on the registration and login forms.
Does it work without Everest Forms? No. It is an add-on and works on top of the base plugin.
It needs Everest Forms as a base and is not a full membership system
This add-on doesn't work on its own: it is installed on top of Everest Forms and uses its form builder. What it offers is user sign-up, login and password recovery. If you need paid tiers or want to restrict content by the user's plan, check in the demo whether it covers your case or whether you'll need another tool.
