About Flatsome | Multi-Purpose Responsive WooCommerce Theme

The theme that removes five plugins

A freshly built WooCommerce shop almost always ends with the same list installed: one for colour swatches, one for the quick buy button, one for the floating cart, one for the free shipping bar, one for layout. Five plugins from five different authors, five sources of conflict and five things to update.

Flatsome brings all of it inside. It is the best-selling WooCommerce theme in ThemeForest's history, and that is a good part of the reason.

What comes included

  • Variation swatches by colour, image or label, with no separate plugin.
  • Quick buy and a sticky button, so adding to the cart does not require opening the product page.
  • Instant cart, updating without reloading the page.
  • Free shipping bar, showing how much is left to reach it.
  • Catalogue mode, for hiding cart and checkout when the site only displays product.

The two in-house builders

Pages are built with UX Builder, its visual builder, and headers with a designer of its own where menu, search, account and cart get placed as blocks. Both are Flatsome's, not third-party.

And there is the small print

An in-house builder means dependency on the theme. Everything built with UX Builder is stored as Flatsome's own code inside the content. While the theme is active, perfect. The day you want to change, those pages are left with codes in square brackets instead of a design, and have to be rebuilt.

Worth deciding with that in view. In favour: the theme has been updated for more than a decade and is one of the ones that does not force you to move, so the dependency carries less risk than it looks. Against: if your plan is to try it and switch within a year, it is exactly the kind of theme to avoid.

The same applies to the included features: the swatches and quick buy belong to Flatsome. Change theme and they disappear, and you are back to the five plugins.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need plugins for colour swatches?
No, they come with the theme, as do quick buy and the instant cart.

What are the pages built with?
With UX Builder, the theme's own builder, and headers with its designer.

What happens if I change theme?
Pages built with its builder have to be rebuilt, and the included shop features stop being there.

Is it useful for something other than a shop?
Yes, it is multipurpose, though where it genuinely performs is WooCommerce.
