About Funlin – Crowdfunding & Charity Theme

A fundraising campaign can't rely on a pretty page alone

Building a crowdfunding or donation site often ends with an attractive project page, but no way for other people to publish their own campaigns, no built-in payments and no dashboard where each user can see what they have given or received. Funlin starts from that problem: it is a theme designed so the site works as a platform where several users launch and back projects, not just as a showcase for one cause.

And there is something people building such a platform tend to discover late: your business is not raising money, it is managing the relationship between those who ask for it and those who give it. If the project creator can't see how to update backers, or the backer can't find their history, the campaign cools down even when the cause is good.

How crowdfunding works inside Funlin

The campaign side relies on WP-Crowdfunding and WooCommerce. With them, users register and submit projects from the front-end, without entering the WordPress admin. When creating a project they can define:

  • Start and end dates.
  • Featured image and video.
  • Minimum, maximum and recommended amounts.
  • Funding goal.
  • Rewards with an estimated delivery date.

You have four ways to end a campaign: on reaching the goal, on reaching a date, on both being met, or having the campaign never end. The last one suits permanent causes, such as a nonprofit that receives donations all year.

What each user sees in their dashboard

Every registered person has a front-end dashboard where they can:

  • Update their profile and contact details.
  • Check their own projects.
  • See the projects they have backed.
  • Review the pledges received.
  • Access their favorites.
  • Change their password.

On a published project page you can show project updates and the list of backers, with the option for them to appear as anonymous. For people who donate without wanting exposure, that detail matters.

Design and editing: what you can change without coding

The theme is managed with a drag and drop page builder and includes the Boosted Elements add-on for sliders, maps, popups and similar elements. It comes with demo content you can import, a layout that adapts to mobile and desktop, a customizer for colors and fonts, mega menus, a sticky header, contact forms, translation readiness and optimization for high-resolution screens. It also includes the Photoshop files of the logo and the design.

Payments depend on WooCommerce and its setup

Funlin does not process payments by itself: they go through WooCommerce, so you need to install it and set up your payment gateways. Here is what is already solved and what is up to you:

  • Already solved: front-end project form, registration and login, user dashboard, rewards, goals and dates, design and importable demo.
  • You cover: choosing and configuring payment gateways in WooCommerce.
  • You cover: legal texts, platform terms and refund policy.
  • You cover: reviewing the projects users submit before giving them visibility, and deciding how you will handle complaints.

If you will handle other people's money, consult a professional about the tax and data protection obligations in your case. The theme does not solve them for you.
