About GamiPress - BuddyBoss Notifications
The community bell cannot take everything being an achievement
Your BuddyBoss community already hands out points, achievements and ranks with GamiPress, and you want people to find out at the moment it happens. The temptation is to announce everything: every point, every step, every requirement met. A week later the notification bell is full of small prizes, and the reply someone was waiting for from another member is buried among them.
Recognition wears out: the more reward alerts a community sends, the less each one is worth. So the important decision when installing this add-on is not switching notifications on, but choosing what deserves to ring and what should stay silent.
BuddyBoss Notifications is the GamiPress add-on that delivers those alerts to the BuddyBoss Notifications component. They are created on their own when a member earns something, with no manual sending, and each type of reward can be configured or switched off separately.
Eight elements that can trigger an alert
- Completed achievements and steps.
- Points awards and points deductions.
- Ranks reached and rank requirements met.
- Transfers, supported since version 1.1.0.
- Nominations, supported since version 1.1.3.
Points deductions deserve a decision of their own. A deduction alert lands in the same bell as the rewards and reads differently, so it is worth thinking through its text, or switching it off if your system deducts points often.
Two levels of settings and a text with the member's data
General settings. They live in GamiPress, Settings, Add-ons tab. From there you configure or disable the alerts for all elements at once.
Settings by type. Each achievement, points or rank type edit screen has a box called BuddyBoss Notifications that overrides the general settings for that type. So you can keep daily activity points silent and keep the alert for an important rank.
Individual requirements. Since version 1.1.2 you can also disable alerts for single child requirements.
The content of each alert accepts dynamic tags. There are tags for the earned element (title, content, image or link) and for the member (first name, last name and an ID to use in shortcodes). The full list is behind the link shown under each content field.
What this add-on leaves to others
It does not create the gamification. Points, achievements and ranks are defined in GamiPress. This add-on only reports what happens there.
It does not replace BuddyBoss. The alerts depend on its Notifications component, and without a BuddyBoss install they have nowhere to appear.
It is not for BuddyPress. That platform has its own GamiPress add-on, BuddyPress Notifications.
GamiPress 2.0.0, BuddyBoss and first alerts
It needs GamiPress 2.0.0 or later and BuddyBoss with the Notifications component. The individual child requirements option asks for GamiPress 7.8.3.
To get it running without overwhelming anyone:
- Activate the add-on with GamiPress and BuddyBoss already running.
- In the general settings, write the text for each element you want to announce and switch off the rest.
- Open each points, achievement and rank type, and adjust or silence the ones with a lot of movement.
- Earn a reward with a test account and read the alert the way a member would.

BuddyBoss Platform Pro is the community layer, with profiles, groups and messaging on your own WordPress site. If your points system is myCred rather than GamiPress, myCred Notifications Plus shows point, rank and badge alerts with their own colors, sound and style.
Questions before switching on GamiPress alerts in BuddyBoss
Do alerts have to be sent by hand?
No. They are generated automatically when a member earns something. The only preparation is deciding which alerts to show and with what text.
Can a single points type be silenced?
Yes. The BuddyBoss Notifications box on each type lets you configure or disable its alerts without touching the others.
Do I need the GamiPress Notifications add-on?
No. This add-on is independent and works without it.
Can the message be personalized with the member's name?
Yes. Dynamic tags insert member and earned element data into the alert text.
