About GamiPress - WooCommerce Partial Payments
Each points type you admit is a different price for a point
Your customers collect points and you want them to spend them in the store. Before turning anything on, it is worth answering a question of arithmetic: how much, in money, is one point of each type you have worth.
If you admit several points types in one order, you have several point prices running, one per type, and each conversion rate is a decision about your margin.
GamiPress WooCommerce Partial Payments is a GamiPress add-on that lets customers pay part of a purchase with points. Any points type can be enabled, the customer can combine several in one order and the total is reduced according to the rate you set for each.
What you control about redemption and where it shows
- Points types: you enable the ones you want for partial payments, and all of them can be combined in one purchase.
- Conversion rate: it is defined separately for each points type.
- Maximum per type: you limit how many points of each type can be used.
- Maximum discount per purchase: limited with a flat amount or a percentage.
- Amount: you can force a fixed amount of points or let each customer type the amount they wish.
- Points input: there are different inputs for entering the amount, and live controls show the resulting discount as points are chosen.
- Refunds: when an order is refunded, the customer's points can be restored.
The points used in a purchase appear in the cart, at checkout, in the order details and on invoices.
The add-on also works with the WooCommerce block checkout and with recurring fees from WooCommerce Subscriptions. On subscription renewals you can avoid applying the discount.
A ladder of rates, to test
An example using functions it already has: you enable a frequently earned points type with a low rate and a per-order maximum, and a second, scarcer type with a higher rate and a smaller maximum. On top of that you add a discount limit per purchase.
It is our own combination. Do it with a test account: collect points of both types, see how much discount each combination gives in the cart, complete the order and refund it to confirm the points come back. Only then decide whether the rates respect your margin.
What it is not and what it needs
It is not a payment method. It is designed to register points types that the customer uses to reduce the total of a purchase. If you want an order paid entirely with points, you need another add-on, GamiPress WC Points Gateway.
Points used are recorded as spent.
It needs GamiPress and WooCommerce installed and active, and the points types created beforehand in GamiPress.
Turning on redemption with a test order
- Check that GamiPress and WooCommerce are active and that the points types you will use already exist.
- Install the add-on with the WordPress installer and activate it.
- Enable each points type for partial payments and set its conversion rate and its maximum.
- Choose whether the amount is fixed or free, and the discount limit per purchase.
- Place a test order with points and a refund to see how the balance behaves.
