About GeoDirectory Compare Listings
When comparing is what decides the visit to your directory
Someone looking for a flat, a place to stay or a classified ad rarely decides from a single listing: they open five tabs, jot prices down in a note and end up forgetting which one had the garage. If your directory does not let them compare, they do that work outside your site, and from there it is easy for them not to come back.
GeoDirectory Compare Listings adds a button to mark listings and a table that shows them side by side. One thing is worth knowing before installing it: the table is only as good as the data your advertisers fill in. If half the listings lack the price or the surface area, the comparison exposes the gaps in your directory. Decide which fields are mandatory before turning comparison on.
Three buyers of GeoDirectory Compare Listings and what they get from it
The real estate directory
With the table several properties can be put together without leaving the search, and the comparison can be shared with a partner or family through its own URL.
The accommodation directory
Here visitors compare features and prices across several options. They mark the ones they like while browsing the listings and review them together at the end, in a lightbox that does not take them off the page.
The directory with several content types
If you use Custom Post Types or Events, each type can have its own fields and its own comparison list. That way nobody ends up comparing an event with a venue, and each table shows only what makes sense for that type.
One button, one table and one page to share
- Up to 5 listings at once: that is the default maximum, and it can be changed.
- Fields your way: you choose which data appears in the table from the custom fields settings, in the option for where they are shown.
- Customizable button: icons, add and remove texts, colors and size. It is available as a shortcode, widget or block.
- Embedded table: with the shortcode or the block you can place a comparison of specific listings in a page or a blog post, by giving their IDs. It works well, for example, for an article like "three options by the sea".
- Selection that stays: visitors can compare while browsing several pages, and what they marked stays there until they remove it. It is kept in the browser storage, with no cookies or sessions.
On activation a dedicated page is created for sharing the comparison. For best results, place the button in the archive item template and in the sidebar or main template of the listing page.
Questions before setting up the comparison
Can I compare more than five listings? Yes, the default maximum is five and it can be modified. Even so, a table with many columns reads badly on mobile, so test how many your fields can handle.
Can I show different fields depending on the content type? Yes, with Custom Post Types you can define different fields and comparison lists for each type.
Can a comparison be linked from an article? Yes, with the shortcode or the block and the IDs of the listings you want to show.
It needs GeoDirectory installed and well-filled listings
It does not work on its own: it is an add-on for the main GeoDirectory plugin and only compares listings from that directory. It does not fill in missing data or normalize what your advertisers type. A free-text price or an empty field will appear in the table as it is.
