About GeoDirectory Embeddable Ratings Badge
For the owner of a directory with ratings who wants listed businesses to promote it elsewhere
A directory depends on listed businesses paying attention to it, but the usual pattern is that they sign up, publish their listing and never mention it on their own website again. This plugin gives them a reason to: a badge with their live rating, which they paste into their site and which is served from your directory.
It suits you if you already run a directory with GeoDirectory where users rate businesses and you want those ratings to travel across other websites carrying your brand.
It is not for you, or it is more than you need, in these cases:
- It is an add-on: it needs the GeoDirectory base plugin installed and does not work on its own.
- It shows the ratings that already exist in your directory. It does not create reviews or import them from other platforms.
- If your directory barely receives ratings, the badge will have little to show.
- The CDN option only makes sense if you already have one.
How GeoDirectory Embeddable Ratings Badge works on the business's website
The owner of a listing generates a widget with their live rating and embeds it in their own page. The idea is inspired by the Trip Advisor rating widget: visitors see the business's score as social proof and can look at the details of that rating.
For you, every badge is a small window onto your directory inside websites that are not yours.
What you decide and what you leave to the user
This is where the value lies for whoever runs the directory: you set the level of freedom.
- Who can create the embed code: anyone, only logged-in users or only the listing owner.
- Locked or open design: you can keep all style settings closed or hand them to the user so they can match the badge to their site.
- Colors consistent with your brand: for example, you can remove the color options so every badge comes out in your tones.
- Your own branding: you can use a branding image or text on the badge.
If your priority is for every badge to be recognized as yours, lock the design. If you would rather have more businesses install it because it fits their site, open the settings.
Icons and loading: Font Awesome and CDN
The script detects whether the website showing the badge uses Font Awesome. If so, it applies exactly your rating styles. If it does not detect it, it falls back to a lightweight HTML star.
There is also a CDN option to ease the load on your server and serve the widget faster. Use it only if you already work with a CDN, because it requires one.
Natural links: what to expect
Every website that embeds the badge can generate a natural link to your directory, and that referral traffic adds to your search visibility. But it depends on businesses actually using it: the plugin gives them the tool, it does not force them to install it. Encourage them from your directory by explaining what it is for.
Frequently asked questions
Does it work without GeoDirectory?
No. It is an add-on for the base plugin and needs it to be active in your directory.
Can I stop users from changing the colors?
Yes. You can lock the design settings or remove the color options so every badge keeps your style.
Who can generate the embed code?
You choose: any visitor, only logged-in users or only the listing owner.
Is a CDN mandatory?
No, it is an option. You can only enable it if you have a CDN.
