About GeoDirectory GDF Modern Child Theme
For those who already have a directory running and find it looks like a half-finished template
A directory lives on listings that are very different from each other: logos of every size, photos of uneven quality, two-line descriptions next to ten-paragraph ones. If the background design is busy, all that mess shows even more. GDF Modern is a pre-made child theme for the GeoDirectory Theme Framework, with clean type and plenty of white space.
It suits you if:
- you use (or will use) GeoDirectory Theme Framework as your base and prefer to start from a finished design rather than build the layout from scratch;
- you want a sober, airy look rather than one loaded with decoration;
- you run a directory, for example of training centers or academies, where the key is that each listing reads clearly.
It does not suit you if:
- you are looking for a standalone theme: it does not work without the framework;
- you want a very colorful or eye-catching style, because this proposal is exactly the opposite;
- you expect a design to give you the directory: the functionality comes from GeoDirectory, not from the child theme.
White space for listings that look nothing alike
People who visit a directory compare: they open several listings in a row and decide which one to trust or call. With clean type and room around it, the name, the photo and the description can be read without fighting each other, and that matters more when each owner uploads content in their own way.
Do not expect a design meant to draw attention to itself.
GDF Modern Child Theme hangs from the framework, it does not replace it
A child theme inherits the structure of the parent theme and only changes the look. Here the parent is GeoDirectory Theme Framework.
If the framework is missing, the result will not be what you see in the demo. And any extra feature of your directory depends on GeoDirectory and its add-ons, not on this design.
Three tests in the demo before you decide
Open the demo with your real content in mind and check:
- how a listing with a long title and a short description looks, which is common when owners fill in their own details;
- what happens with a listing that has no image or a small logo;
- how a listing page reads on mobile, which is where many people browse a directory.
If the airiness and sobriety fit the tone of your sector, that is a good sign. If it feels cold for your audience, better to rule it out now.

Can I use it without GeoDirectory Theme Framework?
No. It is a child theme and needs the framework as its parent theme.
Does it include the GeoDirectory plugin?
It does not replace it.
Does it change how the directory works?
What it provides is design: typography, spacing and overall look. The directory's features do not come from this child theme.
Why a child theme and not a complete theme?
Because you start from the framework's structure and only change the appearance, without rebuilding the whole site.
