About GeoDirectory List Manager
A favorite saves a place, a list tells an idea
In a directory, visitors find what they were looking for, take a look and leave. GeoDirectory List Manager adds something else: your users can group places under their own title and description, like "Must-try Italian restaurants" or "Places to visit in Scotland". It is the idea of Yelp collections applied to your directory.
The difference with publishing a listing is clear: the listing is created by the business owner, while the list is created by any registered user to recommend or plan, using listings that already exist in your directory.
Public lists, private lists and lists shared by link
Each user can create as many lists as they want and customize their title and description. Then they decide who can see them:
- Public: other visitors can browse them.
- Private: they stay hidden, but can be shared with friends through a unique URL.
If you use the GeoDirectory Custom Post Types add-on, a single list can mix several content types: a restaurant, accommodation and an attraction in the same getaway.

Restaurant or local business directory
Your most active users can publish themed recommendations, like "my favorite breakfasts" or "places to go with kids".
Tourist or destination guide
Itineraries fit here: a weekend in a city with the places you cannot miss. With several content types in the same list, travelers put places to eat, sleep and visit into a single route.
Events calendar
If your directory has a content type for events, users can build lists like "Summer events" and share them with whoever is going with them.
Where you place the button and how lists are displayed
The add-to-list button is available as a shortcode, widget or Gutenberg block. Lists are displayed in a new page template built with shortcodes or blocks, so you decide how the result looks.
Frequently asked questions
Can visitors without an account create lists? No. They need to register, because a personal list cannot be saved without knowing who it belongs to.
Can I mix restaurants and events in the same list? Yes, as long as you have the Custom Post Types add-on and those content types created in your directory.
Who sees a private list? Nobody on the browsing pages, but anyone with its unique URL can open it, so it is a simple way to share it with friends.
What is the difference with adding a listing? Adding a listing publishes a new business or place. A list groups listings that already exist under a theme chosen by the user.
It requires a user account and needs Posts 2 Posts
List Manager is an add-on: it requires the GeoDirectory plugin and the Posts 2 Posts plugin, which handles relating content to each other. Without the latter it does not activate. Also, only users with an account can create lists, so if your directory does not allow registration, it will not be useful to you.
