About GeoDirectory Review Rating Manager

A star average doesn't explain why a business is liked or not

A hotel with 3.5 stars may have an unbeatable location and neglected rooms, or exactly the opposite. In a directory, that single score forces visitors to read half a dozen reviews to find what really matters to them, and anyone in a hurry won't. GeoDirectory Review Rating Manager adds several per-criterion ratings to the overall score, as TripAdvisor does, so the reason behind the score is visible at a glance.

It is an add-on for the GeoDirectory plugin: it needs the base plugin installed and doesn't work on its own.

As many criteria as you want, different for each category

Visitors rate the business's overall performance and then fine-tune it with the individual ratings you define: quality, price, cleanliness, friendliness or any other criterion. There is no limit on the number of criteria.

  • Text for each score: it explains what each rating means (Terrible, Poor, Average, Very Good, Excellent) so nobody reads a 3 in their own way.
  • Settings per post type and per category: you can assign ‘room service’ to Hotels and leave it off Camp Sites.
  • A scale to suit you: 3 stars, 5, 10 or anything in between, with its own text for each number.
  • Rating input with Font Awesome icons, your own images or a simple dropdown.

You will need to decide which criteria make sense in each category. With too many, reviewers may get tired and leave the review half done.

GeoDirectory Review Rating Manager shows the exact score, not a rounded one

Many star systems are limited to half stars. Here the fill is percentage-based, so the score shown is exact. You can also adapt the look to your directory's design:

  • More than 1,500 Font Awesome 5 icons to create the style that fits each sector.
  • Foreground and background colors so the ratings read well on any design.

Common questions before turning on multi-ratings

Does it work without GeoDirectory?

No. It is an add-on and needs the base GeoDirectory plugin.

Can I use different criteria for hotels and restaurants?

Yes. The options are set per post type and per category.

Is it limited to half stars?

No. The percentage-based fill shows the exact score.

Can I limit the photos per review?

Yes: you can set a maximum of 1, 3, 5 or 10 images.

Photos, helpful votes and owner replies

These advanced features can be turned on or off one by one:

  • Multiple photos per review, with a title and caption, which can also help the listing's SEO.
  • Helpful votes: users mark whether a review was useful to them or not.
  • Owner replies, clearly marked as such.
  • Review sorting: latest, oldest, highest rating, lowest rating or most images uploaded by users.

User images can also appear outside the review thanks to the listing's images widget: in the main gallery, separately, as a slider or in a grid with a lightbox. If your sector lives on visuals, check in the demo how it looks.

Plan the criteria by category before opening up reviews

Before opening your directory to ratings, spend some time on the list of criteria for each post type: what you rate in a restaurant is not what you rate in accommodation. Decide the scale, the text for each score and the photo limit, and post a test review with images to see how the gallery behaves.

And remember that publishing fake reviews is a legal and reputation problem: check what gets published in your directory.
