A portfolio that looks like everyone else's
Most portfolios end up the same: a grid of thumbnails, decent typography and zero personality. Anyone hiring a designer, illustrator or photographer sees dozens of identical sites in one afternoon and remembers none of them. Glitch starts from the opposite idea: a minimalist theme with an animated glitch effect that triggers on hover, so your site sticks in people's memory.
The glitch effect in Glitch: where it appears and how you control it
The effect is built with CSS3 and applied to header elements and the homepage, on both images and titles.
From the Customizer you can change, without touching code:
- Between 2 header styles.
- The background, accent, border, shadow, title and text colors, plus the About page background.
- The border width, key to a brutalist look.
It also comes with its own custom post type and taxonomy for the portfolio, a splash page and an About page with its own background, different from the other pages. The homepage shows posts in an asymmetric grid and the layout is responsive.
Content, SEO and details that matter to publishers
Glitch includes shortcodes for pull-quotes (left and right) and for the intro paragraph, options to upload your logo and a signature image, and a custom About widget. It also has sharing buttons, social media icons and a related articles section, all without third-party scripts or trackers.
For search it adds schema.org markup, an h1 to h4 heading hierarchy designed for search engines and breadcrumb support. For the breadcrumbs you need the Yoast SEO plugin. If you publish code, it includes highlight.js, which detects the language and highlights it automatically. It ships with translation files (.pot, .po and .mo) and an informal German translation.
Is Glitch the theme you need? Questions and limits
It is a good choice if your brand wants a raw, experimental feel. If you want a neutral, corporate theme, the glitch effect will be too much. Also, the effect works on the header and homepage; if you want it in other areas, you will have to write your own CSS.
Does it work for a shop?
It supports WooCommerce, so you can set up a simple shop. Look at the shop page in the demo to check whether its style suits your products.
Do breadcrumbs work on their own?
No. They require Yoast SEO to be installed.
Is it available in Spanish?
It includes translation templates, so you can translate it yourself, but the ready-made translation is German.
Does it have lots of demos or templates?
It is not a multi-demo theme: it offers 2 header styles and color and border settings. Check the demo to see whether that range is enough for you.
