About Golo Directory and Listing Theme

A directory without listings attracts no visitors, and without visitors nobody pays to be in it

Building a directory of restaurants, rentals or coworking spaces usually starts with a theme that shows listings nicely and ends with another problem: businesses don't sign up and you don't know how to charge them. Golo is designed for that second problem, not just for the looks.

Whoever builds a directory runs a two-sided business: visitors look for complete listings and owners only pay if they see contacts or bookings. Income comes after the directory already has useful content, so it pays to start with one city or one type of place, not everything at once.

Golo Directory and Listing Theme step by step: from the imported demo to the first click that pays you

1. Pick a demo. There are several ready-made demos, which import with one click, and you can list restaurants, house rentals, coworking, medical services or tourist attractions. You edit them with Elementor, without writing code.

2. Decide what each listing type does. Each listing type can have a different action:

  • Booking form: the guest chooses a date, a time slot and the number of people.
  • Send message: for people who want to ask before booking.
  • See location and contact: phone, map, email, website and social links, or a message to the owner.
  • Affiliate button or banner: you earn money if the visitor books on a third-party site.

Be aware: the booking form collects the appointment request. If you need to charge for bookings online, check in the demo whether it fits your case.

3. Fill in the listings. Custom fields can be created, edited or deleted to suit you. Opening hours support 24 hours or several ranges per day (for example, with a midday break), and restaurants or services can publish their price list as a menu.

4. Charge the owners. Membership packages, free or paid, determine who can submit listings. There are two roles, guest and owner, and a dashboard to manage listings, bookings, package, profile and reviews. If a business already appears without its owner having signed up, the owner can claim the listing and edit it.

5. Help people find it. Search finds listings and cities, and the filter combines type, category, amenities, price and city. Neighborhoods sit under each city and there is a map view of the area. For maps, besides Google Maps (which requires a card for its API), you can use OpenStreetMap or Mapbox.

6. Build trust. Reviews support several criteria that you define, users save favorites and can log in with email, Facebook or Google.

Common questions before choosing Golo

Is it only for travel?

No. It works for local business directories, city guides and rentals, and you can list restaurants, coworking and medical services.

Do I have to use Google Maps?

No: it supports OpenStreetMap and Mapbox, and you can change the map style.

Which plugins does it work with?

It supports Yoast SEO, Contact Form 7, MailChimp, Loco Translate and WooCommerce Checkout Field Editor, and is compatible with WooCommerce.

Can I translate it?

It includes translation templates and is compatible with Loco Translate.

Ads, Adsense, memberships and affiliates: what you earn depends on your traffic

The theme gives you four ways to earn: selling ad positions, showing Google Adsense, selling memberships to owners and placing affiliate links or banners. None of them works without visits and well-filled listings, and the theme doesn't generate that traffic by itself. Use it as the structure of your business, not as a promise of income.
