About Google Places Reviews Pro WordPress Plugin

If you expect to see all 200 of your venue's reviews on your website, this plugin will disappoint you

Many people install a reviews plugin thinking their Google listing will be copied in full onto their site, and then find just five comments. That is how the Google Places API works: it only returns the 5 most relevant reviews. Google Places Reviews Pro partly makes up for it: when Google changes those five, an option saves the new ones to your database so you slowly build an archive of your own.

It is a good fit if:

  • You run a local business (a cafeteria, a restaurant, a workshop) and want visitors to see what your customers say on Google without leaving your site.
  • You prefer to show your rating with a badge, a carousel or a widget instead of pasting screenshots.

It is not for you if you need to import your entire review history from day one, or if your business has no Google listing.

Shortcode, badge, carousel or widget: choose where reviews appear

Google Places Reviews Pro includes a shortcode generator to place reviews in the order and spot you want inside a page or a post. You can also create these formats:

  • Badge: a compact summary of your rating, with an optional Google logo and the ability to open the reviews from it. It also exists as a widget.
  • Carousel: reviews move along on their own thanks to autoplay, and it adapts to mobile screens.
  • Widget: for a sidebar or footer, with several display options.

The badge has a live preview, so you see the result before publishing it.

Only five stars, no name, or with phone and website: you decide what is shown

You can show or hide your business name and add your website and phone number. You can also limit the list to 5-star reviews. And if you have several locations, you can show reviews from different places on the same page or post.

A tip: filtering is only a presentation choice. Your real Google rating does not change, and anyone who looks up your listing will see everything else. If you only show praise, let it be the real reviewers Google returns, not a selection that ends up misleading.

Structured data and multilingual sites

The plugin adds fields for Google's rich snippet and has an option to turn it off if you already have another SEO plugin handling that. Whether Google shows stars in its results is up to Google, not the plugin.

If your site has several languages, it works with WPML and Polylang, and it comes with a Spanish translation.

The Google API key is the step where most people get stuck

To fetch the reviews you need to create your own Google Places API key, and add your location through its Place ID. If the plugin cannot find your business, first check that it appears in Google's Place ID finder and make sure no other plugin on your site is using a different key. Set aside some quiet time for this setup before designing anything.

How many reviews show up, can I mix locations and filter stars?

How many reviews can each shortcode show?

The Google API only delivers the 5 most relevant ones. With the update option, the plugin keeps saving the new ones when Google changes those five.

Can I show reviews from several places on the same page?

Yes.

Can I show only 5-star reviews?

Yes, you can filter that way.

Can I hide my business name?

Yes, you can show or hide it, and add your website and phone number if you want.
