About Google Tag Manager for WooCommerce Pro
When Google Ads counts 40 sales and Analytics only 31
A WooCommerce store often piles up one plugin for the Facebook pixel, another for Analytics and a pasted code snippet for Google Ads. Each one decides in its own way what a purchase is and when it fires, and the result is numbers that don't match across platforms. The real problem isn't the mismatch: it's that advertising algorithms optimize with that data, so a badly measured event ends up shaping where you spend your budget.
Google Tag Manager for WooCommerce Pro takes the opposite approach: a single plugin that records the store's events and sends them to the GTM dataLayer, from where they are distributed to every connected tool. Same source, same data, and if something fails there is only one place to look.
The funnel events that reach the dataLayer
The plugin emits GA4-compatible ecommerce events across the whole purchase journey:
- Catalog: view_item_list, select_item and view_item.
- Cart: add_to_cart, view_cart and remove_from_cart.
- Checkout: begin_checkout, add_billing_info, add_shipping_info and add_payment_info.
- Closing: purchase and user_data.
It also covers common plugins such as quick view, multilingual and wishlists, and it is compatible with high-performance order storage (HPOS) and with the cart and checkout blocks. It also includes an option to fire the purchase event only on the thank-you page, useful when certain payment methods cause misfires.
Presets that save you from building variables and triggers by hand
Setting up GTM from scratch is the tedious part: variables, triggers, tags. Google Tag Manager for WooCommerce Pro ships preset bundles for the most common tools (Google Analytics GA4, Facebook Pixel and Google Ads), so the integration comes together in a few steps, without creating each piece.
It doesn't lock you in: since control stays in GTM, you can add more precise triggers, your own tags and variables, or connect other analytics and advertising tools.
It includes native support for Google Consent Mode v2, designed for when you process user data from certain regions. That said, asking for consent before sending data requires manual configuration, and the plugin allowing it is not the same as complying with regulations for you.
Is it worth centralizing your store's tracking in GTM?
It makes sense if you already measure with several tools or plan to. If you only use Analytics and won't advertise, GTM may be one more layer you get little out of. You also need GTM present on the site: the plugin emits events to the dataLayer, but tags are managed in your container, and advanced adjustments call for some familiarity with GTM.
Do I need another plugin to get started?
No. With GTM embedded in the site, it starts emitting ecommerce events to the dataLayer without installing anything else.
Is it only for Google Analytics?
No. The events follow the GA4 format, but they can be adapted to other tools such as Facebook Pixel or Google Ads, and through GTM you can connect practically any other.
Will data be sent twice?
The integration is designed so data isn't sent twice. If you already have another plugin with its own pixel, check that it is no longer active.
Does it handle cookie consent for me?
Not entirely. It is compatible with Consent Mode v2, but obtaining consent requires manual configuration on your side.
