About Gravity Perks Copy Cat

Making customers type the same address twice is an abandonment waiting to happen

In an order, registration or booking form, every repeated field is an excuse to close the tab. Billing and shipping address, cardholder name and name on the card, guardian phone and emergency phone: the same information typed twice. Gravity Perks Copy Cat is a Gravity Forms plugin that copies the value of one field into another within the same form, so your visitor doesn't have to repeat themselves.

What almost nobody considers is that people don't leave because of a long form, but because of a form that feels silly. Asking for the same thing twice gives that impression, and Copy Cat removes it without you having to delete any fields.

Two ways to copy: with a checkbox or as people type

The plugin works in two ways, and choosing well changes the experience:

  • With a checkbox: the user ticks something like "My shipping address is the same" and the values from the source field pass to the target field. It's the most natural option for addresses.
  • Automatic: the value is copied as it is typed, with no action from the user. It works, for example, to make first and last name appear right away in a credit card's name field.

Setup is done by adding a CSS class with a specific format to the field (copy-1-to-2, where the numbers are field IDs). There is no panel with buttons: you'll need to note your field IDs and type the class by hand in the advanced settings.

What to copy in each type of form with Gravity Perks Copy Cat

Store or order with billing and shipping

You can chain several classes on a single checkbox (copy-1-to-2 copy-3-to-4 copy-5-to-6) and move name, phone, email and address from the billing block to the shipping block all at once.

Forms with compound fields

Name and address fields have several sub-inputs. If you use the sub-input ID, you copy only part of it: the last name from one Name field to another, first and last name to a card's name field, or just the state from an address to a simple text field. If in doubt, use the ID of the whole field.

Registrations and forms with an emergency contact

Copying a parent's name into the emergency contact field saves typing.

Quantities, lists and calculations

You can pass a number field to a product quantity field, or copy selected choices to a List field, even into a specific column of that list.

Copy only when a condition is met

By adding a condition to the class, the value is copied only if another field has content or a certain option is selected. For example, copy-1-to-3-if-2 copies field 1 to field 3 only if field 2 has a value. In radios and drop downs the first option counts as 0; in checkboxes, as 1. One important detail: the class must go on the field used in the condition, because that's the one the plugin watches.

It needs Gravity Forms and some patience with IDs

Copy Cat is not a standalone plugin: it works on top of Gravity Forms and only copies within a single form, not between different forms. There is also no visual wizard; each copy is a class you write yourself. If your team isn't comfortable with CSS classes, allow some time for the first setup. Check in the demo how it behaves with the field type that matters most to you.

Frequently asked questions

Can I copy one field into several at once?

Yes. You add one class per copy, separated by spaces, and a single source can feed several targets.

Does it work with almost any field?

It supports copying from and to most Gravity Forms fields, including lists, addresses and names.

Can I copy only part of a multi-input field?

Yes, by using the sub-input ID instead of the whole field ID, such as the last name or the state.

Does it copy only when a checkbox is ticked?

Not necessarily. You can choose between a checkbox that triggers the copy or an automatic copy as people type.

Does it work with an email field with confirmation?

Yes, by indicating the second sub-input in the class if you want to copy from the confirmation.
