About Gravity Perks Limit Dates
For anyone who collects dates in a form and can't afford a wrong one
A form with a free date field ends up receiving deliveries on Sundays, bookings for yesterday, or time off for next year. Then someone has to call the customer to fix it. This plugin is for people who manage deliveries, requests, appointments or registrations with a calendar and want visitors to pick only valid dates.
- It suits you if you already use Gravity Forms and need to narrow down a date picker.
- It doesn't suit you if you want a booking system with availability, time slots or capacity: Gravity Perks Limit Dates restricts which days can be chosen, it doesn't manage bookings.
- It only works with the Date field set as a date picker (Date Picker). Other input types of the Date field don't work.
- It is an add-on for Gravity Perks: without Gravity Forms and Gravity Perks installed, it won't work.
How Gravity Perks Limit Dates narrows the range
There is a minimum and a maximum date. Each can be a specific date, the current day (which updates itself every day) or the date chosen in another date field of the same form.
You can also apply modifiers: add or subtract days, weekdays, weeks, months or years. Some examples of the plugin's own logic:
- Current date plus one week, to require a minimum notice.
- Current date plus two weekdays, for deadlines that don't count weekends.
- Another date field minus one year, to limit to the twelve months before a chosen date.
You can also require the date to be in the future or in the past. For insurance claims, for example, it prevents reporting an incident dated tomorrow.
Days of the week and exceptions: the calendar your business really has
By default every day is allowed. If you tick only Monday to Friday, the rest appear blocked. If you tick only Saturday and Sunday, only those days can be chosen.
Exceptions apply on top of everything else and work both ways: an available date becomes blocked and a blocked one becomes available. That lets you close a specific weekday holiday or open a special Saturday in a calendar that only allows working days.
Important: holidays are not preloaded. You have to add them yourself as exceptions, one by one, and review them every year. If you add exceptions through code, the plugin shows a notice in the field settings so you don't forget rules that aren't visible in the configuration.
Linked dates and a visible calendar
With linked fields, the start date sets the minimum of the end date.
The calendar can be shown as a dropdown or built into the page (inline). In inline mode it stays open when a date is selected, which is handy for people who need to compare several options.
Validation and timezone
If the user types the date by hand instead of using the calendar, the plugin validates it in the browser and on the server. Mind the difference: in the browser it warns that the date is invalid, but it doesn't stop the form from being submitted; the server is what rejects the submission, with a validation error.
When you use the current date as a limit, it is calculated with the timezone set in WordPress, so visitors from other countries don't see a different "today" from your business's.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need Gravity Forms?
Yes, and Gravity Perks too, because Limit Dates is one of its add-ons.
Can I block almost everything and enable only a few days?
Yes, by combining restrictions with exceptions that enable the specific dates you want to offer.
Does it work with other date field types, such as dropdowns?
No. It only works with the Date field set as a date picker.
Does it handle times or real availability?
No. It limits which days can be selected, but it doesn't control schedules, quotas or existing bookings.
