About Gravity Perks Multi-page Navigation

Long forms people abandon because they can't go back

A multi-page form works fine until someone makes a mistake on step 2 and is already on step 6. With the default Next and Previous buttons, they have to go back page by page. Gravity Perks Multi-page Navigation turns page names into clickable links so users can jump straight where they need to.

People who install this usually have forms that ask for a lot of information: admission applications, scholarships or grants, quotes, long surveys or bookings.

You decide when users can navigate with Multi-page Navigation

It is enabled in the form's paging start field by ticking the navigation option, and it has three modes:

  • Any page already completed: the user returns to steps they've already filled in. It suits forms with a linear progression.
  • Any page from the start: they can jump anywhere from the first moment. It's useful if they don't have all the information and want to fill in what they can.
  • Any page, but only once they reach the last one: it keeps the user moving forward and lets them go back only after they've reached the end.

A page only shows as completed in the navigation once it has been visited and passes Gravity Forms validation: required fields filled in and correct formats, such as an email.

What happens with errors when navigation is open from the start

With free navigation from the start, validation is skipped when moving via the page links. If the normal Next button is used, the page is validated as usual. On submission, all pages are revalidated and the user goes back to the first page with errors.

If several pages have errors, a Next Page with Errors button appears that takes the user to the next page with problems, with no need to hunt for it. And when the user reaches the last page with errors, they can submit from there. This last behavior can be disabled with a hook. The button label can also be changed, but with a code snippet.

Save and Continue, preview and custom links

  • Save and Continue: it is compatible with the Gravity Forms feature. The user completes pages in whatever order they like, their progress is saved, and the form remembers the last page they visited.
  • Submission preview: together with Preview Submission, users review what they wrote and, if they spot a mistake, jump to that specific page instead of pressing Previous over and over.
  • Back to last page button: it is added automatically in the contexts where it makes sense.
  • Custom links: you can create links to specific pages inside the form or anywhere on the page.

Page links can be styled with CSS: for example, the opacity of the links, the available ones or the name of the current page.

It needs Gravity Forms and Gravity Perks to work

It is not a standalone plugin. It is a Gravity Perks add-on and requires Gravity Forms. In addition, the form must have at least two pages, because it only works on multi-step forms.

  • Already solved: navigation links between pages, control over when users can navigate, a button to go to the page with errors, and compatibility with Save and Continue and with submission preview.
  • You cover it with another plugin: the multi-page form itself and its fields (Gravity Forms), and any other Gravity Perks features you need, such as page transitions or advanced saving.
  • You cover it by hand or with a professional: dropdown navigation, changing the starting page or enabling a page parameter in the URL are done with code snippets. Visual styling of the links is done with CSS.

Frequently asked questions

Does it work for single-page forms?

No. The form needs at least two pages.

Can I let users submit from any page?

It requires additional adjustments. What is included by default is submitting from the last page with errors.

Does the user lose what they typed when jumping between pages?

No. Data is kept when moving between pages, and with Save and Continue their progress is saved so they can resume later.

Can I show the page links somewhere else on the site?

Yes, you can create custom links inside the form or anywhere on the page.
