About Gravity Perks Populate Anything

A form with hand-written lists has an expiry date: a service changes, a new professional joins or an option runs out, and someone has to remember to edit the form. Meanwhile, visitors pick things that no longer exist.

Gravity Perks Populate Anything: let the form read what you already have on your site

This plugin is an add-on for Gravity Forms. It fills a field's choices and values with data that already lives in your WordPress, instead of keeping it duplicated inside the form. If the data changes at its source, the form reflects it.

The practical truth for whoever installs it: almost every business with long forms (service catalogs, directories, member sign-ups, internal orders) already has its data somewhere, but the form is one more copy that falls out of date. Populate Anything turns that copy into a query.

What it can read and how it filters

The available sources are:

  • Posts, with specific options for them.
  • Users, for example all those with the administrator role.
  • Taxonomies and terms.
  • Gravity Forms entries, which lets you use a form as a simple database.
  • The WordPress database, for anything that doesn't fit the above.
  • REST APIs.

You can fill both the choices of a choice-based field (drop down, radio buttons, checkboxes) and the value of a text field. A field with choices supports both at once.

Filters based on what the user selects

The most useful part is that results are filtered with what the person has typed or chosen in other fields while filling in the form. This is how chained selects work: you pick a category and the next field only offers what belongs to it.

Templates and preview

You decide which object property is shown as the label and which is saved as the value. You can also combine several properties in a custom template. The field settings include a preview with the exact data that will appear based on your filters, handy for checking before you publish.

Live Merge Tags

These are dynamic tags that update on their own and that you can place in labels, descriptions, choices or HTML content. They work, for example, to show a value chosen in another field inside a label.

What it needs and what to keep in mind

It only works on top of Gravity Forms, which must be installed. It is not a form builder and does not create the source data: if your information isn't organized in posts, users or tables, the plugin won't organize it for you. Conditional logic on choice-based fields that use Live Merge Tags has its own quirks, so test it before publishing. For sources such as an ACF repeater or dates with their own format, small code snippets are usually needed.

Frequently asked questions

Can I chain drop downs?

Yes. One field's results are filtered with another field's value, so each selection narrows the options that follow.

Can it bring in data from an external API?

Yes, it supports REST APIs as a data source.

Is it useful for prefilling logged-in user data?

Yes, you can populate values from user data, for example to show their contact details.

Can I show how many results there are?

Yes, with Live Merge Tags you can count the number of results.

Does it work without Gravity Forms?

No, it is an extension of Gravity Forms and makes no sense without it.

Setup is done field by field in the editor

There is no separate panel: in the Gravity Forms editor you enable "Populate choices dynamically" or "Populate value dynamically" on each field that needs it. Then you choose the object type, add filters if you want and define the choice or value template.

Start with a single field, check the results preview and test the form on the site with different combinations before replicating the logic across the rest. If a filter doesn't return what you expect, it is usually because the source data isn't where you think it is, not because of the form.
