About GravityImport
You have a spreadsheet with hundreds or thousands of rows (registrations, customers, old requests) and you need them to live inside Gravity Forms as real entries. Copying them one by one is not realistic, and an improvised dump into the database often leaves empty fields, broken dates or duplicates nobody notices until months later.
GravityImport: from a CSV to real Gravity Forms entries
GravityImport is an add-on for Gravity Forms that reads a CSV file, lets you map each column to a form field and creates the entries. The process is guided, with no need to reformat the file. It supports all Gravity Forms field types and also entry metadata. It is built for large volumes: thousands of rows at once.
People who install it are usually in one of these situations: an agency inheriting a client's data, an organization that has spent years in Excel, or a developer migrating from another form system. The hard part of an import is not uploading the file but the quality of the data: misspelled emails, empty required fields, half-filled rows. That is why the most valuable thing here is what happens before anything is saved.
Validation and errors you can fix
- Automatic validation: incomplete or invalid entries are blocked before they reach your database.
- Downloadable error rows: you get a CSV with the failed rows to review and correct.
- Conditional rules: you filter which rows are imported based on their values.
For any serious import, this saves more time than raw speed does.
Update existing entries, not just create new ones
If you include a column with the entry ID, GravityImport updates that entry instead of creating another one. It works for bulk corrections, but check the ID column carefully before running the process, because a wrong ID modifies the wrong entry.
No form yet? It creates one for you
You can upload a CSV without an existing form and the plugin generates a new one in Gravity Forms from the data. It is handy for getting started quickly, although you should review the field types it chose afterwards and adjust them to what you really need.
It can also run the feeds of compatible add-ons during the import and import files into Gravity Forms file upload fields. There are also developer hooks and optional automations if you want to fine-tune the behavior.
It needs Gravity Forms and a CSV, not a direct Excel file
This is what it already solves and what is left to you:
- Already solved: mapping columns to fields, validating, filtering rows, updating entries by ID, creating new forms, importing large volumes.
- On your side: Gravity Forms must be installed; this is an add-on and does not work on its own.
- On your side: if your data is in Excel, Numbers, Google Sheets or LibreOffice, you must first export it to CSV.
- On your side: cleaning the source data. The plugin blocks what is invalid, but it cannot guess what you meant.
- On your side: checking in the demo that your specific case (feeds, special fields) behaves as you expect before a mass import.
GravityImport frequently asked questions
Can I import an Excel file directly?
No. You need to save it as a CSV from your spreadsheet program and upload that file.
Can I use it to update entries I already have?
Yes, by adding a column with the entry ID.
What happens if some rows have errors?
The invalid ones are blocked and you can download a CSV with only those rows to correct them.
Do I need to create the form beforehand?
Not necessarily: it can create a new one from the CSV.
Can it handle large files?
It is optimized to import thousands of entries at once with good performance.
