Many businesses post on Instagram every day while their website stays frozen with photos from months ago. Instagram Feed Pro By Smash Balloon solves exactly that: you connect your account, choose a layout and your posts appear on any page, staying up to date when you publish.
From grid to carousel: what you can show and how
Four layouts are included: grid, carousel, masonry and highlight. Each feed is customized separately, and you can have several on the same page or spread across the site. You can also combine several feed types into one.
- User and hashtag feeds: show your account or the posts of a hashtag.
- Posts you have been tagged in: useful for showing what your customers do with your product.
- Reels: mix them with the rest or show a feed of reels only.
- Stories: they open in a pop-up when you click the avatar in the feed header.
- Instagram oEmbeds: WordPress removed this feature and the plugin brings it back for the Instagram links you paste into your posts.
It includes ready-made feed templates and themes that import with one click and can then be adjusted: layout, buttons, post style and header. To insert it you use a Gutenberg block, widget or shortcode.
Moderate, highlight and link without touching code
An automatic feed has one risk: showing something you don't want. The visual moderation system lets you hide specific posts or exclude those from certain users.
To direct attention, you can highlight posts by a fixed pattern, by their ID or by a hashtag in the caption (for example, everything that includes #highlight). And with shoppable feeds you link a post to any URL you want: just write it in the post's caption on Instagram. It works for taking a photo to a product page or a booking page.
On the technical side, three details matter:
- Images are resized and can be saved on your own server instead of loading from Instagram's CDN, and the plugin chooses the right size for each slot.
- A backup caching system keeps posts visible even if Instagram has a problem, and you get admin alerts if action is needed.
- It integrates with the WordPress site health check, and with many cookie consent plugins to show a version of the feed with no third-party requests.
Is Instagram Feed Pro By Smash Balloon enough for you?
It is an Instagram plugin and nothing more. Facebook, X, TikTok, YouTube or reviews are separate plugins from the same developer, so if you want to mix networks on one wall you will need another piece. It is not a store either: shoppable feeds only link to a URL, they do not handle a cart or payment. And you need an Instagram account you can connect. If you use a cookie plugin, check in the demo how it behaves with yours.
Do I need to know how to code?
No. It is created with a wizard, customized visually and inserted with a block, widget or shortcode. Code is only needed if you want to change the output HTML.
Will it slow down my website?
It is designed to avoid that: it resizes images, can save them on your server and picks the optimal size. Even so, a very long feed always weighs more than a short one.
Can I show a hashtag that isn't mine?
Yes, there are hashtag feeds, and visual moderation lets you remove anything you don't want to show.
