About Jack Ryan – Creative Portfolio WordPress Theme
A creative portfolio is judged by how your images look
Uploading your work to a generic template often ends in squashed thumbnails, a menu that covers the content or a home page that doesn't say who to write to. Jack Ryan, by MadSparrow, is built for portfolios: large featured images, subtle animations and a home page you can build with parallax or a video background.
There is one truth worth keeping in mind: people who hire you rarely look at everything. They settle on two or three pieces and decide whether to write to you. That's why a theme like this is worth how well it arranges those few pieces and how close it keeps the contact, not how many effects it has.
Parallax hero, video background and a menu your way
The main header of the home page supports a parallax effect, a video background and height adjustment. Video looks great but is heavy: if you use it, make it a short, light file so the home page doesn't load slowly.
The menu also adapts to how you work. You can choose between a default, sticky or fixed menu, or one with a blurred background effect, and there is a drawer-style navigation for anyone who prefers a clean screen. It also includes a logo and a social media menu.
Masonry blog, gallery and contact form with Jack Ryan
- Masonry blog: posts are shown with masonry layouts.
- Image gallery and widgets: the theme includes both.
- Contact Form 7: it's included, so you can build a contact form without hunting for another plugin.
- ACF Pro: also included. It lets you create custom fields, repeatable blocks, galleries and settings pages. How you use it in your project pages depends on what you build.
- Social sharing options: so your pieces are easy to spread.
Languages, SEO and child theme: the technical base
Jack Ryan comes with a .pot file to translate the interface into any language and works with the WPML plugin if you need a multilingual site. It's a useful point if you work with clients in several countries.
It is ready for a child theme, so your code changes stay separate from the original theme. Its structure is optimized for search engines and the design is responsive, adapting to desktops, tablets and mobiles. Still, ranking depends on your copy: a portfolio with only images and no descriptions gives little to index.
The demo images are for presentation only
What you see in the demo is not what you get on your site. Splitting the work between what is already solved and what is up to you avoids surprises:
- Already solved: header with parallax or video, menu styles, masonry blog, gallery, form with Contact Form 7, ACF Pro and a translation file.
- You provide: your own images and texts. The demo ones are the designer's work and only serve to present the theme; to use them you need their permission.
- Separate plugin: WPML, if you want a site in several languages.
- Separate plugin or a professional: selling your work or services online. The theme focuses on showing work, not on charging for it.
