About Journal Payment Wordpress Addon Plugin
Journal publishers with Journal Research Publication who charge per article
Collecting payments from authors by email, bank transfer and spreadsheet works until the journal has dozens of articles in process at once. Then every payment has to be matched by hand to a specific article, and authors keep asking where their submission stands.
This addon is for the publisher that already works with the Journal Research Publication plugin and wants to charge inside its own website. It does not work on its own: without that plugin there are no articles to attach payments to. Orders are also handled in WooCommerce, so you need it installed too.
If your journal does not charge fees or sell copies, it adds nothing for you. And if you are looking to manage article submission and review, that belongs to the base plugin, not to this addon.
An author with several articles and a single place to pay
A publisher rarely loses money on the amount of the fee: it loses it on traceability. Which author paid, for which article and for what item. Here every payment is tied to an article from the start, which saves a lot of manual reconciliation.
- The author has a profile with articles in process and already published ones, and can open each one to see its details.
- They can check an article's status in a list and pay the publication charge from there.
- They can buy printed copies of their published articles and certificates.
- There are screens to accept or reject copyright documents, with an email notice when one is rejected.
Journal Payment Wordpress Addon Plugin turns charges and printouts into WooCommerce products
The plugin automatically creates the products in WooCommerce and links them to the journal's articles. There are three types: the publication charge, printed copies of articles and printed certificates. You can edit each one from the journal's product list.
For the author, paying or ordering printouts feels like shopping in any online store: product, cart and checkout. For you, publication charge orders and print orders appear in WooCommerce orders, with their details, in the same place where you already control everything else. You also get your own dashboard with the article publication and printing charges.
Gateways: from PayU or PayPal to any that WooCommerce supports
Older versions of the plugin could only charge with PayU or PayPal. Adding another gateway required custom development and adapting each transaction, a cost that came back with every change.
Because it relies on WooCommerce, you can now connect any gateway that WooCommerce supports: cards, digital wallets or other methods. Note that the gateway is set up in WooCommerce, not in this addon, and availability depends on the gateway itself and your situation.
Questions to settle before setting up your journal's payments
Does it work without Journal Research Publication?
No. It is an addon for that plugin and needs it installed on the same website.
Do I need WooCommerce?
Yes. Publication charge and printout orders, and the payment gateways, are handled with WooCommerce.
Can I charge with something other than PayU or PayPal?
Yes, with any gateway compatible with WooCommerce.
Is it only for the publication charge?
No. It also lets you sell printed copies of published articles and article certificates.
