KingTube is a WordPress theme designed for tube-style video sites, with a dark layout and a structure built to keep visitors on the page as long as possible. Unlike other themes that focus solely on the video player, KingTube includes its own blog and photo sections, making it possible to build a site with several content types without relying on extra plugins to manage each format.

Video management without external plugins

Each video is managed from its own edit screen in the WordPress dashboard, through a metabox that brings together the URL or uploaded file, resolution versions, embed code, shortcode, duration, views, likes, trailer URL and thumbnails. All of these fields sit alongside the video's title and description, so there's no need to install an additional plugin to manage the data for each piece of content.

The KingTube grid and its display options

The video listing is displayed in a grid that can be configured from the Theme Options panel: number of videos per page and per row, thumbnail aspect ratio (16:9, 4:3, DVD/Blu-ray format or square), image cropping and thumbnail quality. You can also choose whether views, duration and rating are shown directly on each video card. The main color, logo and favicon are changed from the same panel, without editing theme files or creating a child theme.

Features built to retain and monetize traffic

• Trailer preview on hover: if a video has a trailer uploaded, it plays automatically when hovering over the thumbnail.
• Rotating thumbnails: for videos without a trailer, several images rotate on the thumbnail to give a fuller idea of the content.
• Built-in ad zones: configurable advertising spaces inside and below the player, in the sidebar and in the footer, each managed independently.
• Tracking or affiliate button: an optional button on each video's page, with customizable icon, link and text, useful for affiliate programs.
• Views, ratings and comments system: a view counter, rating and comments that can be toggled on or off from the theme panel itself.
• Visible categories, actors and tags: shown right below the video title, making it easy for visitors to keep browsing similar content.

Frontend content submission

KingTube lets registered users sign up, log in and upload their own videos through a public form, without needing access to the WordPress dashboard. Both the registration form and the submission form include reCAPTCHA protection to cut down on spam.

Compatibility and supported formats

The theme supports trailers and thumbnails in mp4, webm, gif and webp formats, and uses VideoJS for native HTML5 playback of mp4 and m3u8 files. All ad and thumbnail settings can be configured independently for mobile, separately from the desktop settings, and the grid, player and menus automatically adapt to the visitor's screen size.
