About LearnPress Commission Add-on
When revenue sharing lives in a spreadsheet
Opening your academy to other teachers usually starts well and goes wrong with the first payout: nobody remembers which percentage was agreed with whom, sales have to be cross-checked by hand, and an instructor asks how much they have earned while you take days to answer. LearnPress Commission Add-on calculates each person's share after every order and keeps the details visible to both sides.
Three kinds of platform and three ways to split revenue with LearnPress Commission Add-on
The same split for everyone
You set a default percentage (for example, 70% for the instructor and 30% for the platform) and it applies to all teachers. It is the simplest option if your marketplace has one set of rules and you want to avoid individual negotiations.
Instructors with their own terms
You can assign a teacher a personal rate without touching anyone else's. Each one is paid according to what was agreed, and you do not have to remember it yourself.
Courses with different rules in the same catalog
You can also set a specific commission for a particular course. After each completed order, the net share for each party is calculated automatically.
Pending, paid or canceled: the life cycle of each commission
Each commission gets a status:
- Pending: there is a new order and the commission has not been processed yet.
- Completed: the instructor has already been paid.
- Canceled/Failed: the order was voided and generates no commission.
As an administrator you can change the status by hand when you pay on your own. If you prefer to automate, the add-on can be integrated with payment plugins such as PayPal Payouts, although that may require separate configuration.
Each record stores the course name, the student who bought, the order amount, the percentage applied and the instructor's net earnings. Revenue can be viewed by day, week or month, with reports on total revenue and income per instructor.
The dashboard where teachers see their own figures
Each instructor has their own area with the orders for their courses, the commission applied to them, their total earnings and the status of their payouts. That saves you messages like "have you paid me for this month yet?", because the answer is on their screen.
Common questions before setting up the marketplace
Can I set different rates per instructor and per course?
Yes: a global default, another per instructor and another per course.
Are payments to instructors automatic?
Not on their own. You mark commissions as paid by hand, or you integrate a payment plugin such as PayPal Payouts, which may need its own configuration.
What happens if an order is canceled?
The commission is left as canceled or failed and no earnings are generated for the instructor.
Can instructors see what the platform earns?
They see their orders, the commission applied, their total earnings and the status of their payouts. That is what their dashboard shows.
It needs LearnPress and, with several teachers, Co-Instructor
It is an add-on: it does not work without LearnPress installed. If you are going to have several instructors, you must also install the LearnPress Co-Instructor add-on. And it is not a payment gateway: students' money comes in through your usual payment method, and this add-on takes care of calculating, recording and displaying the split.
