About LearnPress Paid Membership Pro Add-on

Selling courses one by one works until the student finishes theirs and disappears. Every sale means starting from zero with the next course, and revenue rises and falls with the month. This add-on connects LearnPress with Paid Memberships Pro so that access to courses depends on the student's membership.

The underlying problem: a course catalog does not build a habit

People who sell online training often think in terms of individual courses, but the student who comes back every month is not buying a course: they stay as long as they keep finding something new to learn. A membership turns the catalog into something that renews itself, and that changes how content is best organized: fewer isolated courses and more tiers that make sense.

Walkthrough: from a free course to a paid plan with LearnPress Paid Membership Pro Add-on

Step 1: you define the levels

In Paid Memberships Pro you create the levels, for example Free, Basic and Premium. Each level has its own LearnPress courses assigned, so you decide what each type of student sees and what each step offers to encourage upgrades.

Step 2: the student subscribes

Recurring payments and renewals go through the gateways of Paid Memberships Pro, such as Stripe, PayPal or Authorize.Net. Students can manage their membership on their own. The available gateways depend on Paid Memberships Pro, not on this add-on.

Step 3: access opens automatically

Only those with a specific level can access the associated courses. If a free course is included in a level, or if you enable automatic enrollment, there are options to control how the student is enrolled. It is worth testing those combinations in a demo before publishing them.

Step 4: you decide whether single sales continue

You can disable individual purchases and require a subscription to learn. It is a business decision: it increases loyalty and recurring revenue, but closes the door on anyone who only wants one course. If you prefer to combine both models, keep single purchases enabled.

What happens to progress when the membership changes

The add-on includes an option to keep or reset course progress. It is a detail that matters if your students come and go from the subscription: decide what you want to happen when someone returns after some time.

It needs two more plugins to work

  • LearnPress, which manages the courses.
  • Paid Memberships Pro, which manages levels, payments and renewals.

On its own it does nothing: it is a bridge between the two. It does not replace a payment gateway or create the courses for you.

Frequently asked questions

Can I have levels with different courses?

Yes. You can create several levels and assign each one its own set of courses.

Can I keep selling individual courses?

Yes, and you can also disable that option so that access is only through membership.

Does it support recurring payments?

Yes, through the gateways of Paid Memberships Pro, with automatic renewals.

Do I need Paid Memberships Pro?

Yes, together with LearnPress; both must be installed and active.
