About Lizza – LMS Education WordPress Theme
An academy and a course marketplace are not the same project
It is the first decision and it shapes everything else. An academy has its own courses, its tutors on the payroll and takes the money itself. A marketplace has outside tutors uploading their own, takes a commission and pays each one their share.
Lizza is a WordPress theme aimed at the second case: it brings the course marketplace structure, with a WooCommerce shop for selling them.
What it brings
- Courses with lessons and tracking of each student's progress.
- Quizzes and assessment, with result rankings.
- Webinars and video, for live and recorded classes.
- Selling with WooCommerce, with the YITH extensions for advanced shop features.
- Header and footer builder, several homepages and editing with Elementor, Pro version included.
The learning side comes from an add-on by the theme's own author, installed alongside it.
What a marketplace needs and a theme does not give
Here is the important part if the plan is for other people to teach.
Paying the instructors. Splitting each sale between the platform and the tutor, keeping each one's balance, generating the statement and paying it is a separate system, normally a multi-vendor marketplace plugin. Without it, every month the accounts get done by hand in a spreadsheet.
Onboarding instructors. Who can publish, what gets reviewed before a course goes live and on what grounds it gets rejected. That is your procedure, and worth having written before the first tutor, not after the first problem.
The invoices. When you take the money and pay somebody else, there are two separate transactions and both get declared. Worth discussing with your adviser before opening, because the treatment changes according to how you structure the split.
A note on the learning system
Because it comes from the theme's own author, the courses, the quizzes and the results end up tied to that add-on. It works, but if you ever change theme you have to look at what happens to the content and the enrolments. Worth keeping in mind if the project is meant to last.
