About MainWP Cache Control Extension

You update core, a theme and three plugins across twenty sites, and then comes the dullest part: logging into each one to clear the cache. If you miss one, the client sees the old version of their site and calls to ask whether the update worked.

For anyone managing many sites, the cost of caching is paid in time, not money

Caching is what makes a website fast, but it is also what leaves it outdated right after you touch it. In an agency or a maintenance service, that lag is multiplied by every site. Nobody bills for it, nobody sees it in the report, and yet it eats hours every month. MainWP Cache Control Extension is built for that specific problem: so that clearing the cache stops being a manual step that depends on your memory.

What MainWP Cache Control Extension does and where it falls short

It is a MainWP extension, so it works from your MainWP Dashboard on the sites you have already connected. It is not a caching plugin and it does not speed anything up on its own.

  • Automatic clearing after updates: when you update core, themes or plugins, the cache of the affected sites is purged without you having to log into them one by one.
  • Manual clearing: you can purge the cache of one or several sites from the Manage Sites page, or with the Cache Control widgets on the Overview page and on each site's view.
  • Logs: a simple interface with logs so you can follow what has been done.
  • Global or per-site settings: you can define the configuration for all connected sites from one place, and also for a specific one.

The limits, so you don't buy with the wrong expectations: it needs MainWP Dashboard and sites connected to it, and it only handles purging. If a site has none of the caching solutions on the list, there is nothing this extension can do for it. Nor does it configure your caching plugin or decide what gets cached or for how long.

Compatibility: Cloudflare and a long list of caching plugins

It works with Cloudflare and with these plugins: Breeze, LiteSpeed Cache, WP Fastest Cache, W3 Total Cache, WP Rocket, Hummingbird Performance, Cache Enabler, Nitropack, Autoptimize, Nginx Helper, WP Super Cache, FlyingPress, WP Optimize, Comet Cache and Seraphinite Accelerator. You keep using the tool you already had on each site, so there is no need to standardize your whole fleet.

If a site uses a solution that is not on that list, assume it will not be purged by this extension and plan for that case separately.

Frequently asked questions

Can I clear the cache by hand as well as using the automatic purge?

Yes. You can do it for any number of sites from Manage Sites or with the Cache Control widgets.

Does it work with Cloudflare?

Yes, Cloudflare is among the supported solutions, along with the caching plugins on the list.

Is it useful for a single site?

You can use it, but the real savings appear when you manage several. With one or two sites, purging by hand costs very little.

Does it work without MainWP Dashboard?

No. It is an extension of the MainWP ecosystem and depends on it to connect to your sites.

Connect the sites first, then tune the purge

Before activating anything, check that all your sites are connected to your MainWP Dashboard and which caching solution each one uses. Run a test update on a low-priority site, review the logs, and check in the browser that the new version is showing. Once you confirm the purge behaves as expected with your combination of caching plugin and Cloudflare, roll the process out to the rest.
